The atmosphere was great - there are big, beautiful picture windows that overlook the waterfront. The thing we probably enjoyed... the most about the atmosphere was the live piano player. It's something that you don't see too often and really made for a verypleasant atmosphere. Staff was awesome as well. The food was excellent. There is a caveat to my 5* rating - I believe this to be the finest eatery on the island and thus it rates that in context. In... a metro area more likely a 4*. Ate here alone on the occasion of a significant birthday. All staff were absolutely first classand succeeded in making the event memorable. Thank you all. Classy establishment but relaxed, perfect as a nice place to eatwhile in a relaxed vacation mode. Light and airy decor and good views of the harbour. Food was for the most part good toexcellent but lacked that final lift that would have given it a full 5*. Decent wine list. In a nutshell I thoroughly recommendfor anyone visiting the island. Food was amazing definitely recommend we were stuck between eating at the grand or here but the grand menu was limited so we... choose here and I’m so happy we did! He was incredibly knowledgeable on the menu and the island, he was... very honest on his recommendations to us which I greatly appreciate, and he did a great job setting up our table for theimpromptu photo shoot we asked him to do for us. We were seated very quickly and our server had a beautiful French accent, extremely polite and knowledgeable. I had their... Colorado Lamb Chops and Creamed Spinach. This was the BEST Creamed Spinach I have ever had; I've had many. The wisdom of thechef when he prepared the lamb was second to none and when paired with the sauce, had my taste buds smiling. The only Key LimePie that is better than this one are those from Key West. We canceled our reservations at another place and decided to dine herelast minute; it was the best decision we made on the entire trip. HIGHLY  recommend! For a little oomph, when makingreservations,  ask to be seated in the 'front over looking the downtown/bay' area' especially if you're dining at sunset. Best view ever! Extras: This restaurant is attached to the "Island House Hotel" and sits beautifully along the visualshoreline. You can sit outside on the lawn after dinner and enjoy the beautiful views at dusk. We enjoyed a wonderful evening and meal at the 1852 Grill Room. The service, from the moment we walked in was terrific. Erica... expertly guided us through the menu with recommendations along the way. We split salad, enjoyed an appetizer, plus deliciousmain courses including prime rib. The food was outstanding - so much we dined here twice in a row during our stay at Mackinac Island, though we stayed at the... Grand Hotel. The prime rib was prepared and seasoned perfectly. Had a lovely dinner. A relaxed leisurely time. Don't go here if you want a quick dinner. Our server was nice. The garlic/ butter... bread board was wonderful. All our dishes were excellent. The reason I give 4 stars was because of the lack of table/clearing. Our dirty plates ect from our first course were still on our table when our main course came out. We placed them allon the end of our table. The buss. Server and the floor manger just walked passed and left them. Not the sort of thing youexpect from a high end restaurant. Read more
