I don't recommend the cupcakes. ???????? All I got was a cupcake, so I don't feel like I can fully rate this place. I'm giving... an overall rating with the assumption that the coffee is good, so an average of 3. Sadly, the cupcake was 1 star - very hardfrosting, cake was dry, no salted caramel flavor. It tasted like it was sitting there for a couple days. Maybe if it were freshand not refrigerated it would taste good? Maybe I went on a bad day? I ate a couple bites and threw it away. Unfortunately, theservice was also just mediocre (in contrast to the eager friendliness in the bookstore). Based on other reviews, it sounds likethe food overall is good so I'd love to go back and try coffee and some other items another time. Read more
Visited this small but lovely cafe. Wait staff were wonderful and everything was tasty. I dropped a pouch from my pocket while... getting a mask out. My number was on the pouch (containing a $2,000 hearing aid) and one of the staff called me the next day andarranged for my son in law to pick it up. Many thanks to your great staff. Read more
Staying the week in Madison and have now gone to the cafe twice. On both occasions I have experienced subpar customer service.... The amount of staff working compared to the wait time was unacceptable, and the first visit they did not even get my orderright. Wish I could speak so highly about this place because the food is very good, but unfortunately the staff and their lackof care for their paying customers makes me question if I will return. Read more
This is a fantastic place to visit. Not only great choices of books and neat gifts to purchase but they have a great little cafe... attached to it. The food is delicious, the staff in the cafe and in the Bookshop are absolutely lovely people. They are sohelpful and pleasant. Have been going there for the last several years on my trip up to Madison. A welcome change from thehubbub of New York City. You will enjoy every minute being in this bookstore and Cafe. Read more
RJ Cafe & Bristo, a cozy bisto located in a fabulous bookstore. You can find a good book and a great meal. We had curried... chicken salad with mango sauce and apples. On our way back we had a margarita flat and chicken and onion flat. Read more
Food is good but limited...service isn't great. I ordered online for a take out order and got to the restaurant right on time.... The girl at the counter asked my name and said it'd be just a couple more minutes, no problem - mind you she didn't even checkon it, she just spoke. Now 15 minutes pass and I again ask the girl when my order will be ready. She goes to where her otherworkers are and grabs an order that's been sitting on top of an appliance since I got there - it was my order, done the entiretime. Not only did I wait an extra 15 minutes for my food, but it was soggy and gross by the time I got to eat it. No one evenapologized for the mistake, or tried to correct it or make a fresh order. The manager just looked at me and looked away.Unfortunate to say that I will not be returning. Customer service should always be the top priority. Read more
