This place gets a lot of things right. A cheap combo option, a great lemon chicken rice soup, great pita sandwiches and plates.... Their food tasted absolutely great. It has a very unique taste and flavor profile that is pretty authentic Mediterranean. Goodhummus, good pitas. If you are craving Mediterranean food near State Street, you should definitely come here for a quick (andcheap!) bite to eat. Read more
Heard so much about Mediterranean Cafe and finally decided to try it and LOVED IT!! State street has a hidden gem. You all need... to stop what you are doing and head to Med Cafe today. Mediterranean Cafe has been serving the Madison community for more than20 years. It’s a casual and cozy restaurant serving Algerian food. The food here is delicious, has an authentic taste, andserved quickly. You will go back here again after you have tried it once. We tried the chicken shawarma plate and chickensandwich. The shawarma plate is served with rice, salad, hummus, and pita. The portion size is huge and I really thought Iwouldn’t finish it. Once I started eating, I couldn’t stop and my plate was empty before you know it. The chicken and saladwas so flavorful . The rice that accompanied it was also so well prepared. The chicken sandwich was also huge and sodelicious. I cannot wait to go back there and try other things off their menu. Got the chicken shawarma plate for $13. Everything was good except that they had really big chicken pieces they could have done... it with bite sized pieces. The chicken had almost no marination so it tasted bland. Salad was good. But Feta cheese on the saladdidn't quite fit for the essence the dish had overall. It was a nice experience though as the dine in Ambience was great. Read more
Mediterranean Cafe has been recently one of my new favorite restaurants. The staff are always super friendly, and the food is... prepared quite quickly. Each time I have been it has tasted amazing, paired with their yummy Algerian tea. I usually go with theFalafel plate or sandwich, it is very tasty. I would definitely recommend giving this place a try. Read more
I've only ever gotten delivery from the Mediterranean Cafe so I can really only talk about the food, which is incredible. My... go-to order is a combo shawarma plate (chicken and beef), and it's always excellent. The meat is flavorful and tender, thehummus is divine, and the lettuce in the little salad is always fresh! Sometimes salads get a little sad and wilty when they'redelivered (especially when they're traveling with hot food), but I haven't had that problem ordering from the MediterraneanCafe. Someday I'll make it into the actual brick and mortar establishment, but until then I'll enjoy the excellent food viadelivery! Please also note that I realized I should take a photo of my meal for a review about halfway through eating the salad- the amount depicted isn't accurate to what I actually received. Read more

I've walked by Mediterranean Cafe a number of times but only today decided to stop in. To make it short: I'll definitely be... back. To elaborate: I ordered the shawarma plate and got it a mere 2-3 minutes after taking my seat. I did beat the lunch rush,so I suspect service may not be that fast at all times. The shawarma itself lands itself in the upper echelon of shawarma I'vehad. It was very tasty and tender, and the sauce on it was very good. The pita was very good as well (I kinda wish I had morebread, of a bigger bread like khobz!) As for the hummus? Incredible. I've made hummus at home or had hummus from my Moroccanfamily/relatives, and this is just as good, if not better. For the sides: The rice itself was quite good and the salad was agood combination of greens. A highlight on the salad was the olives, which were very, very good. I wish I had more ofthem! Overall, there was not a single subpar item on the plate and the price was right. Read more
