When arriving at Portillo's we were greeted by joyful, vintage jazz music, which set a wonderful tone for our meal. It is one of... my favorite restaurant environments, with lots of vintage and unique items adorning the walls. Today, I ordered a chili dog andthe #3 combo (cheeseburger, fries, and soda), which I shared with my hubby. It was all pretty good! I loved the fries. Theburger was MASSIVE, and the chili dog had really nice flavor. My only critique, not just for our meal today but just forPortillo's in general, is I find their buns to be a little too soft for the heartiness of the protein. Overall, though, we werevery satisfied with our meal. The employees were friendly too. Of course, we had to end our meal with the Chocolate Cake Shake,which is worth a trip all its own. Amazing!! First time eating inside here. My son just finished the 2nd grade and brought him here as a treat. Every single person was... beyond genuinely friendly. Made us feel welcome. They even seemed to pick up on this special bonding moment and the managerbought my son a piece of chocolate cake. Hands down restored my faith in going to restaurants to sit down and eat. There was alady there also working the dining room that was very sweet and checked in on us several times. My son and I will be making thisa regular event. Drive thru service was poppin. Team was phenomenal and really enthusiastic. Food was not too bad, my first time being here even... though I pass by it often. Hot dogs were pretty big, and had fresh and crunchy (not slimy/squished) toppings. Read more
I was in the mood for a Chicago style hotdog and since I was helping my brother move I decided to check the area for such eats. ... Found Portillos and was not disappointed. The esthetics of old Chicago gangs and the early eras were enjoyable to look at. TheChicago dogs were definitely enough to get full on and it was a must to have a slice a chocolate cake. One thing to note is ifyou catch them right as they're making the cakes the air is permeated with fresh chocolate cake and makes you even hungrier thanwhen you walked in. This is a reminder of home back in Chicago so we were excited about o try it. If you?ve been following me, you?ll know that I?ve... been only trying to eat plant based things. They offer a Grilled Portabello mushroom sandwich. I had never had a mushroombefore, as I?m a texture person & asked that they char it. It wasn?t what I expected it to be but it wasn?t their fault. I?llgive them an A for effort because they remade it & even threw in a piece of cake for the inconvenience. The atmosphere, service and food were all above average for a hot dog joint. My wife likes the coney dog- a hot dog is a hot... dog, except for Portillo?s. I love the Italian beef sandwich and Greek salad which we tried today for the first time. They wereexcellent and we would order them again. The place was very clean and welcoming.
