My wife and I were passing through Ardmore, OK the other evening, searching online for places to grab a bite to eat, and found a... recommendation for McGehee?s Catfish Restaurant. After perusing the online menu?s of several competing restaurants, we decidedto try this one. McGehee?s is outside of Marrieta and overlooks the Red River. But we didn?t know that yet. We naivelyimagined a restaurant in a shopping center parking lot. Something nice and safe, maybe like an old converted Texas Roadhousestyle building. Nope, not for our choice. The road Google Maps took us down for miles was barely two lanes wide. The type ofroad you exchange waves as you pass each other. The type of road your grandparents knew their grandparents way back in the day. That is if there was any traffic. Today there was nobody else out there. At one point we found ourselves surrounded by pastureland with 100s of longhorn cattle. I started imagining I could hear banjo?s playing faintly in the distance. We eventually cameto a fork in the road with a ?restaurant is a 1/4 mile that way? sign pointing down a narrow single lane track through the treeswith no restaurant in sight yet. We continued on wondering what we would eventually find. There?s no civilization in sight atthis point. The road itself is the only proof that mankind has ever made it out this far. A dilapidated tin building with 3abandoned cars, 4 dogs and a handful of chickens would not be a surprising find at the end of this road, we?ve already passedseveral in the last few miles. Dilapidated buildings that is, I didn?t notice any chickens. After cresting a hill we finallysaw a rustic sprawling restaurant perched on the edge of the Red River. Ok, this might be better than our imaginations wereanticipating. Entering the lobby, the entire restaurant faces the river with a wall of windows. Beautiful. We were seated andordered the house specialty, fried catfish, hush puppies and iced tea. They served up large delicious pie Read more

Historical catfish joint. We ALWAYS take a side turn to eat here when passing through the area. As mentioned in the wall street... journal, this was a restaurant that pilots used to land at just to eat. Overlooking the red river, you are served a communaldish of pickled tomatoes, coleslaw and hushpuppies with your personal 2 pieces of fish and fries, if you want more fish, itbecomes an all you can eat meal. You can tell the oil is fresh daily and the temperature is perfect. This trip's cost for 5people all you can eat was 145 dollars. Worth every penny. Read more

This place is a hidden gem. It looks exactly like it did 24 yrs ago and the food is still amazing from the perfectly crispy... fried catfish to the homemade Cole slaw and tomato relish. So worth the drive! First time to visit today and it did not disappoint. Beautiful location. The staff was very friendly. Let?s... talk about the food though?. Catfish was amazing. Very fresh tasting. Hush puppies were light and crispy. None of the friedfoods had a greasy taste. The tomato relish 100%! It was something I?d never tasted before and oh my it is so tasty! Saved roomfor a peach fried pie. It came out hot, tender crust and delicious peach filling. Thank you for the great meal. Read more
