We had a delicious lunch at the Stackhouse Restaurant. They have a good selection of barbecue, burgers and other items. And they... have an extensive selection of local brews. I ordered from the kids/seniors menu and got two brisket sliders with a side salad.They were delicious and filled me up. My wife had the BLAT - a bacon, lettuce, avocado and tomato sandwich, which was verytasty. Check the schedule for music in the evenings. Read more
This was a very pleasant surprise for a meal while traveling through Mars Hill, just 5 minutes off the interstate. The staff is... very friendly. They seemed short staffed, like many places, so be patient with them. I have eaten here twice now and enjoyed thefood overall. The Appalachian Cheesesteak was fantastic. I really enjoyed the onion rings as they are obviously hand-made freshwith a light batter and big chunks of onion. (more on that later) The fries are also on-point, they are between a shoestring fryand a typical fry size, and crispy. The second time there was a special on smoked ribs; moist, tender, fall off the boneperfection. There is a good selection of local beers and cider on tap as well. The areas for improvement, and the lack of 5Stars is the consistency. I was really looking forward to those onion rings the second time around, but unfortunately they wereover-battered and very greasy. They were much busier the second time, and I noticed there was an additional person helping inthe kitchen. This could account for it. My suggestions for anyone on a first time visit: If coming from the interstate, Gopast main street, (GPS will tell you to take a right); take a right on College St. There is better 2 hour parking, and you'renot parking directly on Main St. 1 minute walk around the block to the restaurant. If you like sweet, thick, Memphis style bbqsauce; bring some with you. The sauce here is more South Carolina, vinegar style. I know a lot of people enjoy that style, butnot I. Spent over $60.00 on meal. Had 2 to-go orders. I asked for burger to be well done. Got back to my hotel and burger was all but... mooing. Tried calling 6 times and got no answer. No one came by our table to ask if we needed anything nor a drink refill whilewe waited 40 mins for our dine in food. Had to keep looking at the waitress just to get her attention. Finally got to go boxesfor our dine in and waitress forgot to bring tab. I had to remind her. That was another 10 minute wait. It wasn?t that busyeither.my dad said salad was horrible, put nicely. What a super find while traveling through this charming town! Sat at the bar. They don't have spirits but have good wine and... beer selection. Bartenders are friendly and fun. This place was packed during lunch and I quickly found out why. Food wasamazing! Juicy burger and delicious pulled pork sandwich. Enjoyable conversation with others at the bar passing through town.Just an all around great experience - one of those unplanned nice surprises while traveling. Definitely stop in. Great food, second time eating there both times have been amazing. Went on a Sunday night where it was busy and a Wednesday at... 5pm when I think is close to a least busy time.
