5 STARS! This has to be my best experience sitting at a bar to eat. Christine was extremely friendly/knowledgeable and never let... my wine glass or water get to an empty. I loved the tapas style and was able to drink 3 glasses of wine with little nibbles offood to pair. The truffle fries were to die for. I loved seeing the wine flights last time- I do miss those! We had a group of four and arrived around 7:15 on Saturday night, Oct. 22. I had called ahead to check to see if reservations... were necessary, and they were not for groups smaller than six. We were seated immediately. Our drink orders came promptly andwe tried seven different small plates, which the group shared. The plates were server two or three at a time, which works wellbecause you have room on the table, can anticipate what's yet to come, and the food is still hot when you get it. Everything weordered was excellent! Several different servers and bartenders worked together, so our orders came quickly and empty plateswere removed promptly. Our server was friendly and attentive, and the manager visited our table more than once to make sure wewere happy. This is a GREAT hidden gem in downtown Matthews. You should go before everyone finds out and you won't be able toget a seat! Read more

We have been to Portrait Gallery many times before but our meal last night was so delicious I had to write a review. The changes... made under the new owner and chef have now officially made this one of our favorite go-to spots. The atmosphere and drinks havealways been fabulous and now the food ranks right up there. We brought another couple who had never been and we all kept ravingabout how good the food was and how cute the restaurant is! If you?re looking for a local upscale restaurant with a cool vibe,friendly service, delicious food, and great beverage and wine choices, (and located right in cute historic Downtown Matthews?)this is your place. Absolutely fabulous food. Went for brunch, everything was amazing-especially the shrimp and grits. Best I have ever had. Bar was... slow, food came out before mimosas which were ordered at same time. Would definitely return. Read more

Food was really good and nicely presented. They are supposedly small plates but honestly, I would call them medium. Quite... generous. Server was very attentive and got all the orders correct and served in a timely manner. Cocktails were tasty and halfprice to boot! No hesitation recommending this place. We absolutely love coming to the Portrait Gallery! They are a first-class five-star operation. Amanda never forgets a name or... your beverage of preference. This recall is beyond impressive because we bring our entire Stallings-based staff of 40. Inaddition, Alistar has been super accommodating, opening early to best serve our group during the holidays and special employeefunctions, always creating the perfect menu and experience. I've been doing marketing & events for over 20 years, and the easeof working with them and their professionalism is second to no one! Another fabulous meal at The Portrait Gallery Restaurant! We have been here multiple times and each time is delicious. We... enjoyed a lovely evening on the patio today and are always excited to see what will be on the ever changing menu. We alwaysorder the Brussels sprouts because no matter how they prepare them, they are tasty. In addition to the Brussels, tonight weenjoyed the flatbread - and yes, the watermelon and feta work to create a wonderful summertime combo! Additionally, we had theseared tuna and the accompanying pineapple salsa really took the flavor up to the next level.
