Reviews for Webb's Captain's Table Restaurant in Mayville, NY

In the region for a family event. Hadn't eaten at webb's in probably 25 years. It was the only joint open for a meal with my... sister and uncle. I made the incorrect assumption that the price point of the meals meant it should have been the best meal withthe best ingredients. It was not. In fact, it may have been one of the worst meals I've ever had. The Romain lettuce in theCesar salad was actually incredibly fresh so they get one star for that and one star for the double rainbow outside. I orderedthe garden herb pasta, added shrimp for another $11 and got Four over-cooked shrimp on top of tooo much melted cheese. Taste wasfine, nothing exceptional and definitely not worth $34. Sister ordered the chicken piccata. Mushrooms weren't even cooked, thrown on as an afterthought. The artichokes were flavorless and straight from a can and it was packed with olives. I've neverheard of a piccata with olives. I did go back and read the online menu and it did state it had olives. Probably a dozen olivesand about four little capers. The pasta was undercooked and the sauce was far too wine-y. Uncle had the rack of lamb. Meant tobe medium rate. About half came medium rare and the others medium. Lamb is meant to be medium rare which is why the menuspecified it would be medium rare. He didn't touch the mashed potatoes that came with it so I cannot report how bad they mayhave been. The potatoes looked like they were from last week. No dessert. Price of a piece of cake was $10. Which could buy awhole cake. Server was fine, friendly enough but the young hostess was having a bad day as she ignored us at least threeseparate times. In summation, if you like overpaying for less than mediocre food, this place is for you! Read more

after reading the some of the reviews my husband & i still decided to give this place a shot. we are not usually ones to even... take the time to write negative reviews but this place was something else. we decided to sit at the bar vs a table (usually youget faster service that way) when we sat down and bumped the bar there was a swarm of what seemed to be fruit flies ... but notjust a couple they were EVERYWHERE , it was absolutely disgusting. looking behind the bar there were open bottles of beer 3/4 ofthe way drank sitting there , glasses of soda and the fruit tray (where they get the garnishes for your $16 cocktails) all leftopen and exposed. we decided that we would move to the other end of the bar , the side closest to the kitchen. fruit flies wereno better at that end and there was a tray of old , half eaten food sitting there as well as 5 dirty tables that had not beencleaned off the entire time we sat there (which was probably 30 minutes) this does not seem like a long time but there wereother guests sitting at those tables near there with these nasty little bugs all over , absolutely disgusting. there were alsothose sticky fly traps hanging behind the taps .... think about that when you are ordering a tap beer. i am seeing reviews leftfor this place 11 MOTNHS ago ! ALMOST A YEAR AGO saying that these flies were a problem .. that is awful and completelynegligent on the owners / managements part. we ended up leaving after our one bottle of beer , i could not imagine what the foodwould have been like or what that kitchen is like based off of the front of house .. probably 10X worse. i would avoid thisplace at all costs until these major health and sanitation issues resolved. it is really a shame because the building itself isbeautiful and has a beautiful view but all and all if i could give this place 0 stars i would. I don't typically leave reviews but after this dining experience I felt obligated to share. The food is incredibly overpriced... and of low quality. My girlfriend ordered the Chicken Mediterranean and felt unwell after we left the restaurant. I also feltsick after ordering the "fish and chips". Service was mediocre. I have had better dining experiences at the Target food court. If you don't believe me give it a try, but don't say I didn't warn you. Read more

Nice atmosphere but the food was really not good. The scallops were very water logged and the crab cake was just lacking flavor... and texture. We didn't finish either. Our bill had 2 beers, a lemonade, 2 cups of soup, the scallops and crab cakes with withtip it was over $80. Just wasn't worth it. Maybe because we were out of season that it wasn't great? But really we would not goback after that meal. I gave it a three for the view and the beauty inside. Service was also attentive. Read more

Came here for lunch on a road trip after everything in one of the towns we drove through was closed. Was hesitant about some... previous reviews I saw but decided to make my own opinion. Great ambiance and friendly service. Food was tasty and seemed likea lot was homemade. Great coffee flight btw. Dinner menu was looking good but dinner starts at 4:00pm. Overall no complaints. We will have to come back for dinner. Read more

Beautiful building, the food was okay for the price. The beef on wick was delicious.. however the service is poor. Waiting staff... was as unfriendly as you can get. Hand you something and take off immediately, never asked if we needed anything or how ourplates were. We had to go find someone for another beverage. A smile goes a long way and there were none to be found! . Read more
