What a disappointment. Their budget clearly went to good sineage over staff development or food quality. To be fair I didn?t... actually end up eating there. I waited 10 mins to be assisted even though there were maybe 4 tables occupied. That?s cool. Imean it was a Saturday & while there were like 8 people working, phones do need to be checked & coworkers chatted with as theycut out early & snacks to be eaten by the employees while I waited. It smelled kinda gross anyway & looked dirty. I would haveforgiven a lot if they had a decent beer selection but they had maybe 4 on tap. I mean I wasn?t expecting Lucky Baldwin?s but atleast add some Belgian Ale bottles to the rotation? Locals avoid it & that should?ve been a clue. You?re better off going downthe street to the Meat Market & Tavern where the staff all have lovely attitudes & it seems cheery inside. Instead of when yougo inside Axe & Rose and everyone is miserable. Don?t bother with Axe & Rose. Trust. It?s utterly depressing & a waste of space Read more

A place like the Axe & Rose was a long time coming to McCloud. Go for ample food and its well stocked bar, but also go for... checking out a great interior space that represents the local vibe. Once known as a logging community, the local architectureis distinct representing its historic company town days and Arts and Crafts meets Bavarian Alps details. Painted beams and logstyle abound inside the Axe and Rose. Outdoor space during the frequently great weather is available, too. Honestly, McCloudis my best kept secret, but it's not for everybody. If you're keen to tap out on staying virtually connected and want to trulyexperience California realness, think about visiting, have a few brews and great food, then hang out at the McCloud River. McCloud is a very small town. It has 4 to 5 eateries. This one is more upscale, with a good bar program and higher end American... cuisine. Had the charred Brussels sprouts appetizer, best ever. Had an excellent burger, wife had fish and chips. Will have totry the big entrees next trip. Also had fast, friendly service. It is a large space that apparently doubles as an event spaceand has a stage for shows in large room next to main dining room. Read more

So good! Service was great from start to finish. We ordered the pretzel sticks with cheese, Ribeye Steak, and the Grilled cheese... and all three were delicious. Place was really stylish and relaxed, would definitely recommend! Read more

What a lovely find in McCloud. This was right next to my lodging for the night and was one of the few, if not only dining spot... for dinner. There seems to be a limited number of servers, as there were 3 and while there was seating available, they wereunable to accommodate more. I was told there would be a 15 minute wait, then received a call 5 minutes later that the seatingwas ready. Food-wise, they really have a great assortment of classic comfort foods. The bone marrow and chicken pot pie aredefinitely recommended. Something hearty and delicious is a fine way to end the evening. Had a bit of a wait before I was ableto order dessert, but other than that, a good experience overall. Read more

Gourmet yet classic Americana food. They put a little extra touch into their dishes. The fried okra tasted like it was straight... from the south. We also tried the pretzels and beer cheese which were fresh, homemade deliciousness! For our main course we hadthe bison burger with garlic fries and the volcano burger with the side cesar salad. Both were delicious, juicy, and flavorful. The drinks are fun and not poured with a light hand. We ended up getting the Old Fashion and Rose Cocktail. We could only do onebecause they were pretty strong. Any more and we wouldn't have been able to walk outta the place! Lol! Very good food for sucha small quaint town and the only big restaurant around. It will not disappoint. Read more

I really enjoyed the food, drinks and ambiance of this mountain town bar. Local feel but very warm environment and good... service. I had the Brussel sprouts, well cooked in a balsamic sauce, heavy but really good. Then the mushroom flatbread whichis on a gluten-free cauliflower crust, the toppings were delicious but the crust was under baked. Then a Caesar salad which wasgood. I would for sure come back and eat/drink here again! Read more
