We ordered guacamole. It was bland. The chips were stale. The server left them and replied they all are. My shrimp fajitas were... dreadful .The shrimp was tasteless and overcooked. The onions and peppers were bland No seasoning . Tortillas were old. BisSteak Ala Mexicana was also bland. It really was the worst Mexican food I have ever had. Read more
Everything was great but the chips. The oil wasn't hot enough so the chips were soaked in oil and were hard. A work in progress.... I understand they are under new management. I will be back. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Read more
I ordered a chicken burrito That I thought was very good and much to my liking. I ordered some steak quesadillas for a appetizer... and my partner had steak tacos. The steak was very oily and of ground beef texture. They didn?t enjoy there dishes. Read more
The service was excellent as Always !! And let me tell you the Food was Delicious !!!!! The portions are big enough to feed at... least two people. Their Margaritas are to die for ! Very nice atmosphere. They also have a patio for outside dining. Tons ofparking, including handicapped parking right at the front door. The food is authentic. Excellent food and service. This is some of the best and authentic Mexican food in the area! Saturday night 6-8 pm is extremely... busy, you'll be incredibly lucky to get a seat. There is a patio apparently, but we stayed inside. Highly recommend thisrestaurant! Read more
I live in Texas and was in town visiting family. Let's just say I was very impressed that actual Mexican food taste so delicious... up here. I love to eat and have been eating all over McHenry but El Gordo was one of the best! I even got to meet the owner andthe staff, they were the best! Read more
I took my partner here for his birthday along with his parents, I ordered the pozole and he ordered the tampiqueno meal. I... haven't had pozole in a long time(like 15+ years) I loved the pozole here, it had a smoky flavor to it that was unique anddifferent. It came with tortillas, avocado slices, lettuce, onions and jalapenos to put into it. My partner loved his steak riceand beans as well as the cheese enchiladas. His parents loved their meals as well. Been there 3 times by myself and waited for someone to come to the table to take my order, or to seat me when I entered. All 3... times I was there during the week and around lunch time as they weren't that busy! First time I had to ask for silverware to eatmy food with as they never brought any to the table when I was first seated. Lack of help is the main reason as they don't havepeople to wait on the tables. The food is really good and is the best, and prices are very good. Read more
