La Grolla is located in St. Paul, MN and is one of the oldest restaurants in St. Paul! They are known for serving homemade... Italian food and have been in business for almost 30 years. I always love Italian food and crave it every day, and found thisplace through social media. I found out all of their sauces are homemade and most of their pastas are handmade as well. I triedtheir Penne Alla Vodka Cappelletti, AI Quattro Formaggi, Bruschetta Classica, Crème brûlée, and Cannoli and I gotta say, Ican tell these chefs cook from the heart because everything tasted so delicious and heartwarming. The AI Quattro Formaggi isbasically a large hat shaped pasta stuffed with ricotta cheese and Parmesan tossed with fontina cheese, gorgonzola, pecorinoconfit, cream sauce. I have to say that pasta was so delicious! I really like the sharp, nutty, and creamy elements in thepasta. That was purely handmade which I applud for because I love homemade food and I think it was super delicious. The droughtwasn’t too thick as the texture of the pasta dough was perfect. I also had their Penne Alla Vodka Cappelletti. I love theaddition to basil because it gives the pasta a fresh herb element and basil is one of my favorite herbs. It went perfectly withthis pasta. I love the Smokey and tomatoey flavor the dish had and this was also another great creamy pasta that I crave allday. It was honestly super yummy. I think a bit more peppery flavor would have kicked up the dish but overall, it was like I wasin my mom’s kitchen. She has some Italian roots in her so I cherish and admire the Italian flair she has. The BruschettaClassica is such a classic appetizer that is my personal favorite that I gotta have. Very nice garlic flavor, the tomatoes,cheese, and olives are the perfect toppings on top. Not too oily as sometimes bruschetta can be too oily. The bread was nicelytoasted and there was a perfect bite in my mouth. Our dinner and service was very disappointing this past Saturday. We were placed at a back table on the upper tier of the patio.... Sadly, no ambience and staff seemed to overlook us. We had 3 couples. 3 people ordered the lasagna and all of their mealsarrived 10 minutes after the other 3 had received our food! Unacceptable and very disappointing. Food was decent. I had the salmon salad and my friend had the filet mignon special served with blue cheese and a corn... salad. The salmon was raw, which was unexpected, I'm not sure that the menu stated that. I would have preferred it cooked.Potions were appropriate. And the dressing sure did give the salad a good appeal. Its a very common salad you could definitelyget from many other restaurants The filet looked great and the blue cheese and sauce took it far as the steak it's self wasn'tas seasoned. My friend didn't even touch the corn side as it lacked seasoning too. Servers seemed nice. The bar tender made ussome pretty good non-alcoholic beverages. The atmosphere was beautiful although the space felt limited and a bit tight. Thereare no booths and most tables are small 2 seaters or a 4 seater. Enjoyed a fun evening out on the patio Monday night. Like most places, a bit understaffed so it took a while for our entrees to... come out. Dishes tasted good, lacking a bit in flavor with the prawn and lobster sauce pasta dish though. Read more
My family and I went here for my brother's birthday and it was just amazing! Everything was so delicious ????????????????????... And the prices were not outrageous either ???? Delicious! The service was wonderful, the place is packed, and the food was amazing! We ordered the scallop appetizer (OMG! So... good and so much scallop!) as well as the bruschetta with fresh mozzarella (very tasty). I had the beet salad and gnocchi (verylight and refreshing) my husband had lasagna (just like grandma used to make). Everything was fresh and well seasoned. My friend recommended to try this place and I'm glad I did! It was a nice day out and we were able to do patio dining. Service... was great, but The my friend did not like her lamb chop they had as their special. I don't eat lamb so I can't speak to that.All other dishes were delicious especially the Capesante! Highly recommend a dinner here. Nice little bar nook that’s serves the full menu if you don’t have reservations or have to... wait for your table. The restaurant was very busy.
