American Soul is worth the trip From anywhere! The food is outstanding and the staff is friendly and accommodating! Stevie tends... a tidy, friendly and efficient bar! The beer is nice and cold. I?ve had the lobster Mac & cheese which was great and served in alarge portion! The country fried steak is perfectly seasoned and served piping hot! Im going back often. I've been here many times and usually enjoy the fried whiting and lemon pepper wings. Today I was told my order would be ready... in 15 to pick up and had to wait 30 minutes. The lemon pepper wings were over done and dry, although the seasoning was good. Thecollard greens were tasty. The cheese in the mac and cheese tasted odd. I'm not sure if this was just an off day, but I do hopenext time will be better! Read more
Our first time going and wasn't disappointed. I ordered fried green tomatoes and creamy crab corn chowder as my appetizer, which... was amazing. Our entree was a shrimp basket that includes thinly sliced French fries and coleslaw. My husbands was a southernfried chicken sandwich that included thinly sliced French fries with a side of a Hubbard punch drink and the beer (not on theirmenu). Very delicious and very clean. We will be going back. Hot note: please be kind and patient with the waitress andbartender. The man behind me was a little rude and wasn't even there for 10 minutes. Anyways, we will be back!! Im so glad i chose to go here. Nakajai was our server and she was awesome. Super attentive and made great suggestions and just... made me feel right at home. I?ve been to a couple other soul food places in CT, (don?t want to put them on the spot), andthey?ve got NOTHING on this spot! I ordered the ?Fried Whiting? with mac & cheese and collard greens, and MY GOODNESS! WHO everis back there is a WIZARD ??????? . The fish was seasoned to perfection and was juicy but not overbearing. The mac & cheese wasmagnificent. Just like I remember my grandmother making it or dare i say? better. ???????? The collard greens were juicy andsucculent. Seemed to be seasoned simply but exquisitely. Last but not least the corn bread they give you while you wait for yourfood was softer than a pillow with some sort of melted buttery glaze over the top. We had a late lunch/early bird dinner at 4pm on a Sunday afternoon. Between the four of us, we got wings, crab and corn chowder,... fried chicken, chicken and waffles, lobster Mac and cheese, and a Caesar salad with grilled chicken. Plus the most buttery cornbread. Friendly staff, but most importantly, incredible food. Everything was so tasty, even my salad, which I felt weirdordering (because who goes to a place like this and gets a salad?!). I paid full price and tip, as always. To start with what is wrong with your kitchen, do you think it?s okay to serve disgusting... Mac n cheese, that?s the biggest mess up I?ve seen, even Kraft Mac and and cheese would have been creamier and tastier that thisgarbage. The rest of the food was mid at best, the only good this was the shrimp and fried green tomatoes. The ambience wastrash, the bar was disappointingly not organized. Multiple dirty tables one table as you?ll see in the pictures took like 20mins to be cleaned, even though it wasn?t that busy.
