This has to be the worst managed Portillo?s of them all. Manager is yelling at people and after standing in line for ten... minutes, he screams to us in line, ?Two lines. Make two lines.? This was after I had told people in front of me that we shouldmake two lines. The people in front said they only make one line at this Portillo?s. After five other couples jumped in theother line ahead of us, our cashier ran out of singles. She tells the same male manager that she needs ones and he gingerlystrolls to the back room. Comes out about 90 seconds later with the ones. Two beef sandwiches, one hamburger and two fries thentook 32minutes, even after we asked where our food was after 19 minutes. Pathetic. 07/15/22 updated. Changed rating from onestar to three stars. Completely different experience the second time. Different managers were working, the team seemed to berunning like a well oiled machine! Six minutes from walking in the door to getting our food. Amazing the difference. Food wasgood as always. Without a doubt Portillos hotdogs is one of the best restaurants in Chicagoland area in this one did not disappoint. Located in... Merrillville Indiana right off East 81st avenue and ready to take your order. Get your milk shakes, ????, Italian beefs, hotdogs ????, and most of all the burgers ????! Just driving to Chicago from Lexington, Ky and I was looking for a more local new place to try and this is where we landed. As... we pulled up there was a wrap around line at the drive thru and I took that as a good sign. We got inside and the inside linewas considerably shorter than the drive thru. The menu was reasonably diverse with a few interesting items but I settled on theburger combo and kept it simple. The inside of this place is very interesting as you can see from the pictures. The store wonsome type of award for the area of being one of the best places to dine in 2021 and I can see why. The place is also a greatsize and can clearly cater to large groups. Overall the food was pretty good 4/5 but when you factor in all of the rest I feelit deserves the upgrade to a 5. Ambience 5/5 Menu 5/5 Price 5/5 and Service 4/5. Read more
You can smell portillos before you walk in. Alot of food to choose from. I got the burgers???? so did 2 more of my kids and my... son got the hot dog ????and my other daughter got the chicken tenders. The wait was long but man was it worth it. After thatfirst bite you won't regret it. My burger had that good char on it made the flavor just pop out more the lettuce was fresh thetomato didn't make my burger bun soggy. Happened again. Ordered gravy bread for the second time and it was dry not even dipped in au jus. Not even cut in half. Got... cheese and sweet peppers they were just on the side wrapped up cold lumps. Had to go in because they forgot our fries too. Cakeshake asked for no chocolate sauce got no frosting or cake at all. Can't make this up.Seriously train your people this is ourlast visit every to any location. We spend $32 for meals and get cheated. Not cool. Threw half our food away. Tried to call thelocation three times no one ever answered the phone. Read more
Ordered a large order for catering. Waited an extra hour at pickup from the time it was supposed to be done. I ordered enough... for 40 people and It barely fed 23 of us! Specifically asked if plastic utensils, napkins and plates were included and theysaid yes upon pickup and they were not. Very frustrated! One salad for 40 people? The food was good. Theis restaurant was a madhouse. Had to stand around and wait for the messed up way to call your number to... pick up your food amongst many others waiting for their food. The staff was so busy that they didn't show a good businesspersonality. You can tell they was definitely under pressure. Seemed to be a very popular place. We might try again sometime inthe future, just not in the evening hours. Maybe we might try for a better experience. But the building itself is a reallycool place inside and out. Read more
Found myself out in Merrillville for work, and was looking for a new bite for lunch when I remembered that recently Portillo?s... had added a new vegan option to their menu. Plenty of restaurants offer plant-based burgers, but few places boast a plant-basedhot dog. Portillo?s new Garden Dog is 100% plant-based, while still keeping that smoky and seasoned flavor that makes a hot dogappealing. They certainly do not skimp on toppings either! With mustard, relish, onions, tomatoes, peppers and a giant sliceof pickle, this hot dog quickly becomes quite the main course. Of course, I wanted the full experience, so I also orderedmyself a coke and some delicious, crisp fries. When I walked out the door I was both full and satisfied. The fries were soboth fluffy and crisp simultaneously, and the dog itself was cooked to perfection. It?s a nice change of pace to enjoy myself afully decked-out hot dog, and this certainly will not be the last time I swing in for lunch! Read more
