The Portuguese barbecue has arrived in Metuchen. Fire and Flavor is a typical Portuguese barbecue you would find in Portuguese... communities in Newark or Elizabeth, New Jersey. Typical menu with some added Portuguese favorites as grilled cod, shrimp ingarlic, etc. This establishment is a snapshot of the much larger restaurant. This is a much small one As soon as you enter youare at the register. Either you pickup your order or you can sit at the bar or sit at the few tables making it in my opinionvery tight. Whether you sit at the bar or tables you will have individuals close to you. Also since this barbecue, you willhave smoke, especially when they add charcoal to the pit or when the chicken, ribs, etc will be cooking. I ordered takeout and Idid not see the chicken cooking but, my 4 orders had been previously cooked chicken in the oven. Keeping it warm but, I must sayall four orders were dried and not moisted. So I would recommend that unless you see it cooked before your eyes request one thatis fleshly made. Prices are a little higher than most. This restaurant is located within a strip mall will plenty of parking.Give it a try. Read more
Best Portuguese food I had. The meals are prepared with the freshest, high quality ingredients. The recipes are authentic, yet... unique. Heard about this place from The Cane and Corey show. Drove all the way from Queens and wasn't disappointed. Wilson greeted us... with a smile and was very personable with all of his customers. The ribs were seasoned to perfection with a great flavor, thebroccoli rabe, black beans and special rice were delicious. We will definitely be planning our next trip out. I was excited to find a local Portuguese BBQ restaurant near my office. Prices seemed reasonable, and very similar to Portuguese... restaurants in Union & the Iron bound. To my surprise, the amount of food I got is about half of what I normally receive. Foodwas fresh & cooked as expected. It satisfied my craving for picanha, but I had to cook shrimp & fries in order to feed 2 adultsand 1 small child, which defeats the purpose of picking up take out after work. Read more
Had lunch on February 6th with family at Fire & Flavor BBQ - top notch food, great value and our host Wilson made us feel... welcome and was very accommodating. Nothing but compliments from all of us. If you're from the area and wondering where to gofor a bite to eat that's not your usual... this is the spot. If you need to find a new place to add to your rotation ofeateries... this is the spot. If you need a go-to place for when you're good and hungry... this is the spot. I placed my order over the phone and originally heard of this restaurant from the podcast of the Cane and Corey show. I spoke... with and met Wilson, who is as just as friendly as a guest and sponsor of the show. The restaurant is located on Central Avenuein a strip mall, in case you have a hard time finding the place. I ordered the Chicken with Garlic Sauce Dinner and an extraside order of Steamed Vegetables. Everything was absolutely delicious and exceeded my expectations! The chicken was very juicyand not over-salted like other places I tried. All of the food was generous in portion! It was definitely worth the visit andI look forward to returning in the near future!!
