It's an old cliche to say a place of a hidden gem, so let's call Costello's a tucked away treat totally worth your time. ... Middlebury lacks choices for good takeout food, but that's not a huge deal, cause you'll just go here time and time again. Bestseafood in town, great sandwich selection, and meal options worthy of high end restaurants. And if you're feeling adventurous,use ingredients from the freezer case or deli to make your own. Nice little gourmet Italian seafood and sandwich shop! I got a Scallop Po Boy, no onion, sauce on the side. It was by no means a... po boy, but for sure a delicious fried scallop sub. The bread was soft and a little dense, but a lovely sub roll. Fresh choppedromaine lettuce and ripe tomatoes. The scallops had a crunchy panko breading and the scallops were perfectly cooked - tender andsweet. The 'remoulade' was lacking the grain mustard, but it had a nice raw garlic spiciness that wasn't overwhelming and alittle oregano flavor. They also have a nice selection of seafood, salads, dinners, and products for sale. If it getsbusy/there's a long wait, just go check out the bookstore next door and you'll be smitten. Read more

Middlebury's best kept secret FOR SURE. EVERYTHING is fresh. Generous portions, EXCELLENT FOOD (best in town like I said) and... Owner Operated. Very fresh and wonderful ingredients in their to-go offerings. Their ginger carrot soup was amazing, as was their Sicilian... salad. Very friendly owners made the cold windy day much warmer. Read more
