We Drove in from NC for our first visit to Middlesboro to do some hiking and we were sent by locals to this restaurant. The... steak was amazing and the staff was the best. We had the pleasure to speak with the owner and share stories and also speak withour wonderful waitress Sara. 2nd visit to this restaurant. First visit, the food was mediocre, at best. Decided to give them another chance since we live in... the area. Big mistake!! Waitress was pleasant and provided good service. No problem with her. We both ordered the grilledsalmon, salad and a side. Husband had soup, I had veggies. The salads appeared to have been made a day or so earlier. The souphad potatoes that were undercooked and he ate about half. My veggies were cooked nearly into mush and I couldn’t eat them. The salmon takes second place on the “worst salmon we’ve ever had” list!!! It was DRY, it was BURNED- yes really burnedblack on top. We needed water just to swallow it! Goodbye Shades Cafe!! ???? Food was good and staff is nice but not very attentive on refilling drinks. Not a big deal tho, since they were kind enough.... However, the inside needs some attention. It's clean but it looks like a jail inside. They had maybe 3 sections so, maybe it wasjust where I was seated? Read more
