Went for dinner. The turkey dinner was bland; everything on the plate. No seasoning or salt in the food. Was VERY hungry so... tossed on a ton of salt and pepper and got it down. GF had pasta that was alright. Was never given a check by the server but atcheckout, was given a total of $48. Even adding a To Go dessert the bill should have been around $39 including tax, but beingtired didn't realize I was overcharged til later in the evening. I CANNOT recommend this place for dinner. Today's experience at the Big Scoop was a very good one. Although they were short on kitchen staff and were backed up and we... waited for awhile, it was worth the wait. This was the worse meal and service we had at this restaurant. My BF and I have been coming here for years! It wasn't hard to... tell the owner wasn't working today! The waitress was inattentive and the order was mixed up. This time of the year you wouldthink they would serve fresh vegetables instead of canned. My wife, son and I dropped by The Big Scoop for lunch during a trip to the area. The staff was absolutely charming and did a... superbly wonderful job with how many people were coming in for meals (the place was steady but well organised, so everyone gotserved quickly). We enjoyed some delicious meals that really felt like superb home cooking (sometimes hard to find on the road)and at an incredibly reasonable price. I only wish we lived near the place to take advantage of this wonderful location moreoften. Read more
This restaurant uses an insanely cold air conditioning temeprature. If you dont wan to be frozen to death, dont come here.This... place was bustling with patrons when we were there which we always take as a good sign. Basic food, but good staff and theyoffer take out as well. I had the seafood chowder, which was great. You can also get all the standard fare here of chickenfingers, fries, burgers, etc. They had a party of 80 when we arrived so we couldn't get space, but they have patio you can use,or picnic tables on the back lawn. Lunch was delicious. My wife and I both agreed, and we're not usually impressed with eating out, to be honest. We shared... scallops and fries and fish and mashed between us, and were surprised and delighted at how good everything tested. We actuallytasted the fish and the scallops, not just the batter. Everything was deep fried just right as well. I've eaten there before,and was impressed that the vegetables were all fresh, not frozen. Service was fine, the wait was not long. Read more
I'm in awe of this little gem! Easily one of the best family diners in this part of Nova Scotia. Delicious, affordable food,... awesome selection, including some "gluten free friendly" items (OMG gluten free chocolate cheesecake...), and the nicest,friendliest, and most efficient service. If I lived closer to Middleton, I'd be here every single day (maybe it's best for mywaistline that I don't)! Extra big thank you to Libby who took such lovely care of my family.
