After a long day trip of driving to and back from Lancaster, my buddy and I were debating on where to get some good food and... beer. He recently went to First State Brewery and highly recommended the spicy chicken sandwich. Since I hadn't been to FirstState Brewery yet, we both decided to go here. It was quite busy on a late Saturday afternoon, so we decided to just sit at thebar. One of the servers/bartender immediately gave us menus and promptly took our orders. I ended up getting two beers, MindElevation and Tactical Exploitation. The tasting notes of Mind Elevation was supposed to have mango and pineapple, but in myopinion it was a little too hoppy. The hops muted out the fruit notes. Tactical Exploitation contained Peach and Tangerinenotes, which definitely came through while still maintaining a good level of hops. With the chicken sandwich wars raging on atalmost every restaurant and bar, I like to sample whenever I get a chance at a new established I haven't trie. My buddy told methat the Fightin' Blue Hen is massive and he definitely wasn't joking around. When a server brought it out, I was astounded atthe sheer size of it. I tried eating it with my hands, but the two chicken breasts kept sliding out. The potato bun literallysoaked up the spicy sauce and disintegrated. I ended up using my fork to eat the sandwich in two halves since it was such astruggle. The chicken was cooked perfectly and I loved the added pickle slices. The smaller version of the sandwich, Baby BlueHen is about $2 cheaper. In my opinion, paying an additional $2 which technically amounts to a whole additional sandwich isworth it when it comes to ordering the Fightin' Blue Hen! I opted for the fries and I was recommended the Sweet Sriracha Aiolidipping sauce. Loved the selection of food and drinks. Definitely will be coming back here very soon with some out of townfriends and family. Read more
Really cool place! They have games to play and a ton of beers. We had cheesesteak, chicken and waffles, and the baby blue hen,... all with fries. Super great fries, all really good food! Read more
First State is an awesome addition to the Delaware brewing scene. They are killing it with their hazy IPAs and Double IPAs but I... really haven't had a beer from them that I didn't love. Unlike many breweries, First State has a large food menu with not onlyapps, salads, and sandwiches, but they also have dinner entrees, kids menus and desserts. Tons of parking, huge bar, happy hour,great tacos (which is what we had), great atmosphere- I can go on and on. First State is an easy detour off Route 1 when headingto or from the beaches. There has not been 1 thing we've tried from here that we didn't like! Everything is soooo good and the portion size is plenty!... We order lunch for the office to pick up and this is what we got (sorry about the pics that were not the most attractive but Ididn't want to get into people's food ????). Beautiful neat, and open space. Extremely friendly and attentive staff and the food was also good. There is a great option to... choose from if you are into beer however when it comes sunday most of the cocktails are gone. I had a grilled cheese with thebrisket that was very good and the crab ceviche was very light and refreshing. Read more
Beer - 10/10 Food - 10/10 Atmosphere - 10/10 This place is great! Food and beer were incredible. They even had a comfy couch to... wait on! Being a Delaware native and a Middletown resident it really makes me proud seeing such a great local place! We needmore establishments like this in Delaware.
