My wife and I booked the Mountain Home Inn for three nights in room three. We were excited to get to the mountainous area after... spending a few days in the Napa area to get in some exercise to work off the wine. We arrived later in the day after a hike nearthe ocean and were welcomed warmly by the staff. We got to our room and although we probably should have done a bit moreresearch, we were a bit surprised by the size of the room; a bit smaller than expected. The deck felt equal to the room sizewith a phenomenal view, so all things consider the room was enough. We had dinner the first night and met another friendlycouple that had recently come back from a hike that day. The four of us enjoyed conversation in the smaller part of the diningroom with the better view. The next morning, we woke up to watch the sunset and set out on the same hike our vacation friendshad completed the day before. It was great to walk out of the Inn right into an 8-mile hike with gorgeous views of Muir Woods.Overall, we enjoyed our time, but the Inn is more suited for individuals that are happy to stay in the hotel for relaxation. Wefelt a bit on top of the other guests with our balcony in earshot of both the outdoor dining and most other guests. The food wasgood, not great, but the service was fantastic. We decided to cut our stay short by a night and head down to Sausalito to beable to walk to shopping, bars, and dinner. The drive up to the mountain was a bit prohibitive to go to dinner and drive back atnight if you are not familiar with the area or the speed that some drivers take the curvy road. We would return to the MountainHome Inn but would consider booking a larger room for a shorter duration. Read more
The owner replied to my 4-star rating with "Thanks! How can we get that last star?" That's a fair question. The answer is... consistency. The restaurant is overall great: good food, spectacular views, kind staff. However... Sometimes they are terriblyunderstaffed, to the point where you wait alone in the front for ten minutes to be seated. Sometimes the service is off key,with multiple asks for water and bread, delays to receiving the bill, etc. Sometimes the food is lacking, e.g. sometimes thebread is fresh and warm, other times it is hard. Old Mountain Gem. Cute place to stay with friendly staff and delicious food. The bedrooms were as expected, nothing glamorous,... cozy, and had a beautiful view on the balcony overlooking the bay. I will definitely be staying again in the future. You cannotbeat the location. There are hiking paths on all sides of the inn. The food and cocktails were also delicious. Read more
