A fantastic place to go for lunch. If you?re visiting and you?re looking for some traditional southern food, this is the place... for you. The price to portion size can?t be beat. Also, they have some of the best gumbo downtown. I always took my parents herewhen they would visit. Read more
We went during lunch. It was busy but we were still able to find a table. The tables are very close together. The staff is... very nice and friendly. They have different specials every day. We got the chicken and dumplings and the chicken fried steak. We got Mac and cheese, collards, butter beans and candied yams for our sides. All were very good but would definitely trysomething else because there were so many other items on the menu I wanted to try. Read more
The food was good. I didn't care for the mashed potatoes with gravy, didn't taste homemade. My husband loved the cornbread. The... fried shrimp was good. Something has changed with this restaurant and I am not sure the reason. I write this review in hopes for improvement, Mama's... used to be one of the best! I have had a couple hit and misses in the last year so I stayed away for a while to see if it wouldimprove... On my to go order today...the service was good, food came out quickly. The issue I have is with the taste of thefood. The brown gravy for the country fried steak has a bitter burnt taste, the mac and cheese is more like bland butternoodles. Was excited to try this place. Cute inside and the service was speedy. Too speedy. I get that some people need a fast lunch but... this was crazy. My fries tasted like they'd been heated in a microwave and my husband's lunch tasted like it had been sittingout all day. I don't know anyone who would rather have it fast than good. I'm willing to wait for fresh cooked food. No betterthan a walk up fast food joint. Except here, you have to tip. Read more
