Located less than a quarter of a mile West over the Standiford overpass, you'll be greeted by this cozy restaurant on your... right. I suggest getting there as soon as they open. Why? Parking space. There is amply room - they even have an overflow carport/storage with benches. Once you leave the confines of your car, you feel like you're transported to somewhere else as youstand feet away from walnut orchards. Inside you will stand in line like you did back in the middle school cafeteria. While inline look at their menu on the back wall behind the glass display of food, what can be only described as sinful. You can alsoorder a tri-tip sandwich on their other menu. This menu has specials and other finger licking food finds. You let the wait staffknow what plate you would like ( 1- 3 proteins and side) and is placed in this , again, middle school style tray with sections.I love the trays - brings back fond memories. After, paying you take a seat and your food is brought to you. Let's dig in.... Weordered the 3 protein and 2 sides and we got one of each item so we could taste them all - The verdict? Food is good for theprice but could use a lighter touch on the salt on the cabbage & bacon and Greens. The fried chicken is homemade style - nocrispy skin like the fast food chains. Catfish is good and you're given a good portion. Hell , whatever your order you get agood portion. For me, the red beans rice (white rice is optional - but why would you not white rice?) and shrimp enchiladasstole the show. Reminded me of my second home. Their sweet tea - the don't put the word sweet in front of tea for nothing. Thecornbread has this buttery sweet crust - I've been trying to recreate this cornbread at home! I have recommend this place to myfriends, family coworkers - even total strangers. Magnolia Southern Kitchen is a great addition to the eclectic food scene inModesto. It's about time there was a decent Southern style restaurant. I truly enjoyed my meal. The fried chicken and fried catfish was... fantastic. The mashed potatoes and gravy it was a real winner. For dessert I got their bread pudding. It was not too sweet and Ienjoy the bourbon caramel sauce topping. Everything was fantastic and I will be back! Read more
This is without a doubt truly a little country diner. The staff was friendly and outstanding. Very appreciated our business.... Best of all the food was the best. The catfish was tender with a flavorful batter. The zucchini snd bacon was the best I?veever had. It was season perfectly and I would?ve gone back for seconds if I didn?t have a full plate. The chicken was tendercooked perfection but could use a little more seasoning. Mashed potatoes and gravy were just like grandma used to make. Wow!! I?m impressed! This place is awesome. If you love southern food you need to eat at Magnolias. We had the same thing. Fried... chicken, macaroni and cheese, cornbread, cabbage with bacon and Diet Coke. I of course couldn?t resist trying the bananapudding. So good! Everyone here is very friendly.
