As much as I love steak, it's shocking that I'd never been to a Jeff Ruby's restaurant . . . until now. Last Christmas, they... offered a gift card sale, and my friend and I each bought $100 worth for $80. We finally - in September of the next year - wereable to make reservations and go to Carlo & Johnny. We picked this spot over the downtown location and The Precinct due to itbeing literally in the backyard of my friend's childhood home. We were seated immediately and greeted by the assistant serverwho introduced herself to us. She offered us different types of water. While formal, the atmosphere and attitude never feltstuffy. Our server, Greg, came to the table to introduce himself, ask if we wanted any other drinks and promised to return withbread for the table. Greg was about as perfect a server as I've ever had. He knew precisely when to check in, wasappropriately engaged - but never hovered, never interrupted, and had an air of professional confidence that was just lovely. Hebrought the bread, fresh from the oven, with both regular butter and mushroom truffle butter, which was actually quite good. Weboth started with a half-size Caesar Salad, which was huge. I can't imagine what the full size would have looked like. I hadthe 12 oz barrel cut filet, with blue cheese butter and mac and cheese. My friend ordered the petite filet and sides of bothBrussel sprouts and mashed potatoes. (She was planning her menus for the weekend.) We finished off with dessert; my friend hadthe cheesecake and I had the creme brulee. The steaks, cooked perfectly medium, were so tender you really could cut it with afork. Twelve ounces is a lot, but I ate every bite. The mac and cheese was rich and cheesy and decadent, with a crust ofcheese on top and a gooey center. I had the best time at this restaurant! Our server Andrew was kind and knowledgeable. The entire staff made us feel like the... only table that mattered which was a tough feat for how busy they were. Carlo & Johnny's is one of a handful of restaurants in Cincinnati with impeccable service, food and drinks. The atmosphere is... elegant but comfortable. I typically get their steak but I tried the sea bass for the first time and it melted in my mouth,light and fluffy. My husband loves the Burrow steak. Read more
A truly exceptional experience. The staff were very professional, and the cuts were worth every dollar. If you are looking to... celebrate a promotion, accomplishment, or just see one of the finer staples of Cincy, Carlo & Johnny is a must. One of myfavorite outings so far. Ribeye with garlic and butter, seared and cooked to med-rare perfection. Moody lighting and standoutdrinks offer a vibrant night out with your significant other or group. Me and my fiancé had a wonderful time last night dining here. The atmosphere is very calm and relaxing light inside gives you a... nice glow without being to dull or bright. Staff are very punctual, polite and attentive. Staff will indulge you with somehistorical facts of this beautiful historical building while you wait for your food to arrive. Food is served very quickly withstaff offering to place side items on your plate and box up your meal once finished. A few important things to note when dininghere for the first time like we did?. 1. Portions of food can easily feed 2 people this includes main courses, salads, sideitems, deserts exc? 2. Dress casual/business casual I wore a nice dress my fiancé wore blue jeans and a button up. 3. Parkingdoes offer valet for $3 or you may park your own vehicle. 4. Make a reservation before going as this restaurant fills upquickly. 5. Be prepared to spend an easy $200 plus for a table of 2 people. Regardless if you eat here regularly or are a onetime a year just to say you went person this place is a must try and worth the experience. Hands down our favorite place now. We came for my wife?s birthday and everyone that came to our table said happy birthday to... her. Food and service was excellent couldn?t have been any better. Wow! What an exceptional experience. We were treated like straight Royalty for my birthday! Fine dinning at it finest. I've been... to other Jeff Ruby's, but this by far exceeded my expectations and then some. Our waiter Carlos, one of the managers, Austin,was everything. From them escorting me to the restroom, taking my coat and walking me out! I truly felt special! This is handsdown a place to remember! Oh and the food was beyond delicious!
