The pizza was pretty good, but too much oil had been added on top (many bites tasted mostly of oil) and it didn't have enough... pancetta for it to have much effect on the pizza (see photo). We went to pizzeria Gema, as we read online it is the best pizza in Montreal. So we went with high expectations, unfortunately... it did not meet our expectation. Don't get me wrong very good pizza but is it the best, that is a hard NO. It has manyselections of pizza from white sauce pizza to tomato sauce. Great selection of desserts, small but cozy ambiance. What reallybothered me though was the noise. A lot of people talking and this very loud music, this made me not hear our face to faceconversation and had to keep speaking loud. One of the best pizzas in the city. Even on a Wednesday night, it was very busy and it was easy to see why. We started off with... the calamars frits (calamari), pallote marcovecchio (meat balls), and salade de pieuvre (fennel, potato, and octopussalad). They were all really good. When you get the calamari, ask for spicy honey to go with it because it adds a bit ofsweetness and a kick of spice, along with the brightness of lemon. However, if I had to pick one, I would suggest the octopussalad because it was so tender and soft and the charred flavour of the octopus went great with the light taste of the fennel andthe potatoes. For the main dish, we only shared one Capricciosa but I think that we made the right choice because it wasfantastic! I personally really liked the dough - it was able to hold its structure without softening too much even with thetomato sauce on top. The marinated artichoke went perfectly with the mushrooms and ham and we couldn?t get enough. I thinkcapricciosa is a must if you visit here. For the desserts, we went with the cheesecake and the vanilla frozen custard. Ienjoyed the frozen custard more than the cheesecake but the desserts weren?t a home run compared to the appetizers and the maincourse; but that?s maybe because we were both so full. We are from Toronto and paid this spot a visit with my wife and two children. From the greeting to the ending the customer... service was superb! The food was amazing and some of the best pizza in Montreal. Never tried frozen custard but it was so good!I went on Saturday October 23rd in the evening and the manager on duty was phenomenal. He really deserves a raise as he treatsall the customers with impeccable kindness along with the staff. Defintiely will stop by again when in Montreal. Read more
