Four of us ate there on Oct. 15th. The food was very good, and the service was good. It was a great experience until we got our... bills. My husband noticed ours was TRIPLE what it should have been. I handed it to the server and she mumbled \"oh, they do thatsometimes.\" Really??? Who is they??? I thought the server put in the order, and the customer got charged for what they ordered,and the server printed the bill. Our dinner companions looked at their bill, and they had been charged more than double! Theserver offered no apology and mumbled a different excuse. The other lady in our group talked to the manager by phone the nextday. We expected to be offered a free drink, or a discount on a future meal, but basically she said we paid the correct amount(sure....after we caught the mistake)so she wasn\'t going to offer anything to us. We feel like we were caught in a scam. Iwonder how many people haven\'t looked closely at their bill and overpaid? If you go there, check your bill closely. The four ofus won\'t be back. Read more
The service and overall experience was very good. Food is adequate but very overpriced for the presentation and quality of the... dishes. The beef wellington was very tender but really didn\'t have much flavor. Really disappointing for the price point. Wealso tried the tournedos Au poivre which was a disappointment as well. This dish is supposed to be served with a whiskey creamsauce but instead the steak was drowning in what was more of a soup. The mashed potatoes basically disappeared as theydisintegrated in the excess sauce. The steak itself was good and tender but definitely not what you expect for this dish to be.The soup style sauce was an overkill. Lastly, we tried the halibut, this dish was quite good. It was cooked to perfection. Had anice crisp to it and well seasoned. It was nicely served over couscous and asparagus. One of the worst steakhouse meals I have ever had. My husband ordered crab cakes to start. They were not good at all. They were... also brought to us with our salads at the same time. I had the steak au pouive. The steak was tender but had no flavor. Thesauce was just awful. My husband had the beef wellington. Also completely flavorless. Over all the meals were unimpressive. The only good things were the bread and the cheesecake. Service was ok but rushed. Read more
I am honestly shocked to see so many negative reviews. We went twice in the month of August with a group of 12 each time. We... were seated fast in a nice private area. I had the pepper crusted tenderloin and it might have been the best steak ive ever had.I am a big food critic and had no complaints besides the mashed potatoes and the time it took to get our bills figured out withbeing a larger group. The Horizons Steakhouse hosted a very nice night out for our party of six. The view is incredible and the atmosphere relaxing... and romantic. We shared three delicious appetizers- the Smoked Salmon Bites, Crab Cakes and Shrimp Wonton Wraps- I woulddefinitely order all three again! Also, the bread served before dinner was wonderful! Dinner was served and plated nicely. Iordered the Scallops with the Asparagus Risotto- it was AMAZING!! I am very particular about risotto, as I make it at home, andit is a process worth waiting for, and this was spot on with my home recipe. The scallops were cooked to perfection andliterally melted in my mouth. Prices are high, but it is the entire experience you are paying for. The music set the scene andthe staff was attentive- could have been a little warmer, inviting and more friendly, but, overall, a Strong 4 Star experience. Read more
We have been to the island resort and Casino dozens of times over the past 14 years. We have eaten at every one of the food... venues more than once and have never been overly impressed. We stopped yesterday as we were staying in Escanaba for the eveningand decided to try the new Horizons steakhouse. The new venue is located on the 12th floor of the new hotel addition,overlooks the golf course and miles and miles of woods and lakes. Dining on the top floor of many restaurants over the yearsusually it’s city lights or ocean views or buildings that are in view, it was very refreshing to look out at the north woodsin its serenity. Our server Mary was very sweet, the bread service was phenomenal, Parmesan baked bread with whipped butter. No salad service is included, but with the bread and the phenomenal meal it is not needed. There are some awesome saladselections if you wanted to add on, but it’s really not needed with the portions. Aaron got the Tournedos Au poivre servedover garlic mashed potatoes and it was so tender and so delicious and the peppercorn was not overwhelming at all. I ordered thelobster Oscar, hands-down the most succulent delicious lobster I have ever had, even traveling the Caribbean, Mexico and the NEcoast so many times this was the best! It would’ve been absolutely perfect just by itself but it was served ala Oscar withjust enough crab meat and very light and delicious hollandaise sauce. The lobster was accompanied with garlic asparagus andtricolor fingerling potatoes. Hats off to the chef, this was by far one of the best meals I’ve ever had at any casino venue,including all of those I have dined with in Vegas. Great new addition to a Northwoods casino getaway! Tonight my family (11 of us) went to the Horizons Steakhouse for my birthday. Food was EXCEPTIONAL! We were able to meet the... executive chef, Alexandria. She is a fantastic chef and great conversationalist. She recommended things and knows her menuinside and out. Our waitress, Nicole was so attentive and friendly. Amazing overall experience. I took my mother for dinner at Horizon’s, it was the first time we had visited the restaurant. We arrived at 5PM, waited a... very short time before being seated at a window table with a spectacular view of the golf course. We started with a Caesarsalad, which was wonderful. Just the right size for the two of us to spilt. I ordered an 8oz filet, prepared medium, with garlicmashed potatoes and heirloom carrots. The steak was perfectly prepared. It was a beautiful cut, thick and meaty. The exteriorwas seared just how I like it with the center pink and juicy. I enjoyed every bite. My mom ordered the halibut, which was servedon a bed of chopped veggies and pearl couscous with asparagus spears. The fish was delightful, but just slightly overcooked. Theexterior was a lovely golden brown and the interior snow white. Just a wonderful meal all around. Our server was attentive andkind. Overall a great experience. Read more
