After being turned down by two other places with dog friendly patios (over-capacity), we decided to give the Rocking Horse... another chance. I?ve lived in Nanoose for 20 years and I haven?t always had the best food there, however, I was truly impressedwith what the?new?owners have done with the venue and menu. The place looks like someone has put love into it and the patio wasclean and cozy. Before we even had to ask, a gentleman offered our table a heater. Our waitress was charming and on the balleven though she was very busy with other guests. Most importantly, the food was fabulous with good flavour and good portions. Wegot onion rings, a veggie quesadilla, chicken pot pie, seafood pot pie, and a side of hand cut fries. I could tell they usedgood quality seafood in the pot pie with huge prawns and juicy salmon? nothing frozen or stingy. It was also really nice to walkmy little pup around and say hi to some tables who wanted to pet her. Go here for pleasant pub fare in a cute countrysidesetting. My hubby and I ate dinner here this evening. It was our first visit and it won't be our last! The servers are all lovely and... friendly. The outside patio area is very lovely. I ordered the steak and mushroom pie with chips and my hubby had the cottagepie with Caesar salad. The food was DELICIOUS!! As everywhere is these days, they are a bit short staffed so it was a longishwait for our food to come, but it was well worth it. Read more
We have been waiting to try this pub out for some time. My boyfriend is British so we lean towards pubs with British fare. He... had the cottage pie and I had the roast beef sandwich special. Our waitress was running and managed to give amazing service andmade you feel like you were best friends! Definitely worth the drive and ferry from Gabriola where we live! I wish I caught ourservers name as she made the experience even better. Read more

Short staffed when we went but terrific service otherwise. Hearty meals perfect for a wet and cool day. Daily specials start... after 5pm (except the fish and chips). Casual atmosphere with plenty of locals hanging out at the bar. Plenty on tap and varietyof home cooked and pub meals. Read more

My wife and I went to the Rocking Horse Pub for the advertised fish and chip special at 7:15 last evening. We were seated... immediately and served promptly. The pub has a comfortable relaxed feeling with eclectic furnishings and decor. We chose to eatinside but there is a lovely out door patio dining available. Our server was friendly efficient and sported a cheerfultemperament and delightful sense of humor. Portions were generous, well prepared and tasty. I thought the cost was veryreasonable. I was not a fan of the initial background music, but our server changed it for us. Music is an individualpreference, so I don't fault the pub for that. Over all we had a pleasant relaxed experience and a very good meal. Dont missthis friendly place. Read more
