The sweet tea was good. Maybe our first visit was on an off day but we won't be back for a long time. The restaurant was clean... and the staff was friendly but the server said they only had one cook...understood that meant a long wait. It took a little overan hour to get our order (2 Tuesday specials). The beef was tough and had a lot of fat and not a lot of flavor. The "grilledTexas toast" wasn't grilled or toasted at all. They were out of coleslaw and the corn somehow was hard/chewy and roomtemperature. The lodge itself that you have to go through to get to this place is musty and dated so that should have been my first red flag.... We waited 30 minutes for our order to be taken only to be told they were out of the special because they didn't get a deliveryin time. In the meantime I had to scrape a chunk of food off my shoe that came from under the table where the floor hadn't beenswept. Food we ended up getting was ok but pretty bland. Not from the area- had a bit of a difficult time figuring out that this place was inside of Brown Co state park! However, once... we got there, we enjoyed every bit of it. Great service and AMAZING food! It's hard to find a meal where we're from with actualhouse made items and this was some delightful soul food! Fried pickles, breaded tenderloin, fried chicken, mashed potatoes withgravy, and green beans were all fantastic! Would return with no hesitation!! Read more
We should've read the recent reviews..... We were seated around 8:10am. And it's all downhill from there.... Our waitress didn't... get our drink order till 8:45, and that's only because I flagged down another waitress to go find our waitress who had magicallydisappeared. Then, our waitress didn't even take our food order till 9:10. We finally got our food around 9:45. We had toREPEATEDLY stop another waitress AND bus-girl to ask for drink refills, condiments, checks, to-go containers etc. The food wasabsolutely mediocre and bland, but at least it came out faster than the drinks. The atmosphere was terrible. The live musicianwas a good singer, but he was sooo incredibly loud, that nobody at our table could hear each other talk. It made for a nastyheadache instead of soothing background noise. Our table also happened to be right by the kitchen doors... well, let's just sayit's incredibly disgusting. All in all, this is so sad. We've come to this place for many, many years. It just seems to havebecome a run-down, tired, old attraction that needs renovated COMPLETELY. Won't be returning. 40 min to get breakfast and food was sub par. How can you not make eggs and sausage? Couldn't even use the... salt as it had clotted (and brown in color) in the cap. The best part of the experience was live musician. He was actually quitegood. Read more
Great breakfast with plenty of choices! Only negative is that we did not enjoy the fried biscuits as much as at other places in... the area. They are good, but seemed a little overdone. Read more
First night, we were impressed with the wait staff, but not so impressed with the food. The only redeeming item was the pork... tenderloin. We had our dog with us and we were allowed to sit out on the patio, which was pretty neat. Second night, we had themeatloaf and burger. Both were delicious! Side items were pretty boring, but the real stars were the blackberry cobbler and icedtea. Both were delicious! Limited menu, but good specials and friendly staff.
