Reviews for 80 Proof American Kitchen & Bar in New Haven, CT

I got the steak sliders with fries based on the scrumptious descriptions online.\n\nThese sliders were mediocre at best and are... hardly worth the price (unless you are a huge fan of caramelized onions – the ratio of which to the actual steak bits was50/50. I picked off about a 3rd of the onions due to the overwhelming flavor. Attaching a pic of said picked-off onions, whichare so plentiful they resemble more a side than a slider topping IMO).\n\nFries were quite soggy, and the tiny side of garlicaioli I got for an additional $1 charge barely tasted like garlic at all, but rather simple, plain mayo. Buns were also not aspictured on the site at all.\n\n2 stars only because it\'s a relatively new restaurant in a competitive area (good luck,though).\n\nI\'ll neither visit 80 Proof again nor will I recommend it to anyone. Came here with a big group. Sitting near the windows is great - you can see all sorts of people coming and going on Crown St.... Cocktails were excellent. Our group tried most of them and all were great. Food was also fantastic. People gave the burgers highreviews, and the wonton nachos were fantastic. Only complaint is that the service was a bit slow and there were several mistakeson our bill, including an impressive two errors on one entrée. Read more

Visited for happy hour. Our bartender was really good. Ambience was great. Drinks were good ( in NYC it would have cost double... the price!) . Food was good. Dessert crème brûlée was yum!! Will come back again Read more

I am a huge fan of te amo and barracuda so I had high expectations. Had a great experience during happy hour! We sat at the bar... so we can’t speak to the table service but our bartender was so friendly- i wish I remembered his name! He was so attentive, but not overly so and he made great conversation with us. He made some good drink recommendations as well.\nThe oysters were sofresh and good and perfect with my strawberry rhubarb martini. We also got the waffle fries which were fire.\nWe ended up justeating a salad since we were full, but the entrees looked delicious. We came back the following week with some of our friendswhile we were barhopping because we love this place so much! We plan on making ourselves regulars here.\n\nEdit: came back aweek later and got the fish and chips- looooved how light and crispy the batter was and how flaky the fish! Read more

My husband and I went here for a date night. Our other favorite restaurants Te Amo and Barracuda’s are owned by 80 proof so we... knew the food and drinks would be good. The drinks and food were amazing! There was a random pic of Jay-Z which I appreciatedbut no other artists so I couldn’t quite catch the theme of the restaurant, but it was nice, spacious and clean. The servicewas great and our food/drink orders came out in a timely manner. Oh they had the best mussels I ever had! The lobster creamsauce was superb! Read more

I went for the first time yesterday. We were greeted and seated right away. The server was very attentive. Food and drinks came... out quickly and I must say the jerky waffle fries are the best. The strawberry margarita was excellent. Made perfectly.Excellent first impression! I will definitely recommend this spot and I will definitely be back! Read more

Visited for happy hour last weekend during the soft opening and will definitely be going back! The outdoor space is great, staff... were all fantastic and super friendly (especially our waiter Rafael!), and the happy hour deals can’t be beat in downtown NewHaven. Some of the fries were a little salty but otherwise food was great and so were the cocktails. Hoping this place succeedswhere the last few restaurants in this location haven’t! Read more
