Great historic place to get some of the best pizza I?ve ever had. The margarita pizza was awesome. The tomato sauce tasted so... fresh, and the crust was crunchy and crispy. They also have some old school soda drinks on the menu which is cool. Therestaurant was clean, staff was friendly, and they love talking about the history of the restaurant. The walls are all coveredwith photos of the establishment?s story. There was also a decent line to get in, but it moved pretty quickly, and it was worthit. A must stop for lovers of fine pizza. I?ve wanted to come here for a long time, after watching a lot about Wooster Street and its pizza game. I?ve heard most about... the white clam pizza. That?s what I ordered and have to say I was very disappointed. The pizza had almost no sauce to itwhatsoever and was very dry. On the other hand, we also ordered a bacon pizza, which was sensational. The bacon was perfect andhad that beautiful smoke flavor from the oven. Hands down better than the clam pizza. Also, service was outstanding. I woulddefinitely come back to try some more. Read more
We were heading back to MA after spending the weekend near New Haven with some friends and decided to try out some authentic New... Haven pizza, we would've loved to dine in but were on a tight schedule so we ordered for takeout. Got the original tomato piewith mozzarella and their white clam pie. We couldn?t pass through New Haven without taking advantage of our opportunity to FINALLY try Frank Pepe. There was a small line... (Sunday around 3pm) but it moved pretty quickly and was well worth the wait. You could tell this place is busy most of the timeand they definitely have their routines down, making sure to get people in and out without making anyone feel rushed. The menusand pizza toppings are already at each table which I definitely appreciated. We shared three small pizzas - the clam pie, aplain pie, and a meatball & ricotta pie. We were ravenous by the time our food arrived and absolutely enjoyed each and everybite. I felt like once we actually gave the food a few minutes to cool down, we could really enjoy the flavors and had to stopourselves from eating EVERY slice before continuing our road trip back to Jersey. I finally made my way to Pepe's in New Haven, Connecticut on Sunday, June 12 2022. I should be ashamed after living there for... four years, returning multiple times for reunions and passing through New Haven multiple times during the past forty years. Ihave been to the main competition but only once many, many years ago. We arrived just after noon and there was a line outside. The wait was only about 15 to 20 minutes. Of course the place was full. The seating is mostly booths for four people. Thethree of us were seated in a booth and the waitress came right away. The orders included a white clam pizza, a sausage,pepperoni and mushroom pizza and a white spinach and mushroom pizza. Pepe's uses a coal-fired oven and the crust is thin so thecrust is crispy. There is more than adequate toppings including garlic. There are salads and other entrees but we were therefor pizza and it did not disappoint. I am not sure if it is the best pizza that I have had but it was very, very good and Iwould eat it again without hesitation. I love pizza from coal-fired ovens and Pepe's does a great job. The waitress wasattentive and it was the typical New Haven pizza restaurant atmosphere. Prices were reasonable. Though not sure if it was thebest pizza that I have ever eaten, and I have eaten A LOT of pizza in my life, overall I have to give Pepe's five stars, and Iam not one to give out five stars easily. Me and the family had a blast here. The service was A+ service. Haven't been made to feel at home like this at a restaurant in... quite awhile. Turning to the food, it was all incredible. Clam pizza was good, not great but it met my expectations. Themushroom spinach pizza and meatball pizzas were delicious as well. Fell in love with the mushroom pie though. Overall, it wasincredible!! Went on a little pizza tour on my way back down the turnpike. Decided to try this Sally?s. Me and the girl absolutely loved this... place and had a communal rating of 8/10 on the tomato and cheese pie. Absolutely delicious. We weren?t fans of the white clampie.
