I'm 76, and I know raw fish. The chef was great and friendly and I even learned something! I had one roll which he rolled in... front of me and presented to me, so it could not sit around and get cold or soggy! I had almost nothing but sashimi and spentover $50 for lunch there (without drink) and it was well worth it. The scallop and eel melted in my mouth! All of it was perfectand very impressive. The menu is a bit limited and the sushi is Nigiri. I couldn't have been more satisfied! Image is ofdessert, which changes weekly, and comes from a very creative dessert chef. When I first saw it I thought someone had put theircigarettes out in a drink. Those are sticks of freeze dried cream with bits of red peppercorns. Red is strawberry jam and theyellow-green is a mousse made with lime and mint. And amazingly creative dessert and quite delicious. Read more

The Yellowtail and Sea Bream were quite tasty. The Mackerel, on the other hand, was very bitter and fishy, and the Cuttlefish... was not seared like the website photos depicted. I think it would have tasted much nicer if it had been seared. The salmon rollwas tasty, but not necessarily mind-blowing like other reviews suggested. The tamago was the clear favorite, soft and sweet, followed by the BBQ eel, which was perfectly cooked. Considering the high prices, I will likely only return for the tamago. Read more

Simply excellent. The best sushi you'll find in New Haven by a long shot. Rockfish manifests their noble philosophy, "Nigiri is... truth." This is some of the highest quality fish I've ever had in my entire life (and I grew up on a tropical island). Order theOmakase and sit at the bar to receive starters of edamame and tuna sashimi in ponzu soy sauce, four rounds of nigiri, and tworolls?all freshly prepared in front of you. With every round, the wonderful staff explain what you're eating, where it's from, and how best to enjoy it. Critically, the fish, in all of its freshness and complexity of flavor, was the centerpiece of everysingle dish. Whether it was the creaminess of the yellowtail or the silky richness of the salmon, these sushi chefs knew how toperfectly complement the delicate flavor of the fish with a touch of wasabi and a bed of sushi rice. If you want to eat sushi asit was meant to be eaten, don't miss out on this special experience. Read more
