The Smithy Café is one of these rare places that combines unbelievable food with a welcoming staff with a cozy and comfortable... environment. This is THE place in the area to get your breakfast or lunch and worth a trip if you?re not local. Whether it?s anartistically made cappuccino, the homemade croissants or muffins or the roasted poblano peppers that make their way into theSriracha Steak Breakfast Burrito everything here is created on premises and explodes with freshness and flavor. There issomething on the menu for everybody, from a chicken gyro to a fig-and-honey melt and landing on anything from a Kaiser Roll to agluten-free wrap and anything in-between. It's hard not to instantly relax the moment you walk in as the environment is modernyet rustic, with wooden floors and tables (with fresh flowers), big bright windows and old-school radiators. There?s acollection of early 1900?s photos in the area including one showing children riding in a horse-drawn sled going to school. Orsit outside in the quiet shade of the trees at ne of the many well-maintained picnic tables. If you haven?t visited The Smithy? well, get moving! And if it?s a bit of a drive well then combine it with a drive around scenic Lake Waramaug and a visit to alocal distillery, winery or brewery that are all in the area. Read more

Such a nice spot. I've been here twice, and each time was pleasant. I've had both their scones as well as their pancakes and can... first recommend the scones for one who might be craving something sweeter or are in a rush. And second, the pancakes were simplebut delicious. The pancakes were served with a petite glass bottle of their maple syrup. My one complaint is how when we askedto sit outside, they said the food was brought out. Some time later, we checked back inside to find the food waitingthere. Would come back again. Read more

Lovely location, food and staff. Great coffee! One complaint, the Bacon Jam on my Breakfast Sandwich was overwhelming due to... overdose of Cinnamon. Should have been mentioned on the Menu. I've had several types of Bacon Jam, they never had Cinnamon as aningredient. Read more

I?ve been lucky enough to enjoy lunch several times at the Smithy Cafe. This charming Cafe is located in the heart of New... Preston. It?s easy to be lured by its country beauty as we pulled up. I was greeted warmly by the lovely folks who work there. The staff were all very kind and happy to serve up their tasty food. My husband and I took our lunch outside to enjoy at a tableunder a canopy of trees. The food was delightful and artisanal. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at The Smithy Cafe. Makesure you try some of their delicious scones. They are scrumptious! We look forward to coming back soon. Also, look for them onInstagram. I?ve really enjoyed seeing their posts of Specials and amazing looking food. Read more
