This place is amazing. Authentic food, authentic people. Sylvia Mae is so friendly, and was willing to adapt almost anything on... the menu to make it gluten free for me. I could even eat the hot water cornbread because it was gluten free! Best soul foodexperience I've had in a long time. Read more

Don't dare pass this place up!! I saw a segment on "The Texas Country Reporter" about it, and recognized it immediately on Trip... Advisor. It's EVERYTHING it's cracked up to be!! Don't be fooled if the parking lot isn't full, or thrown off by the quaint andhumble appearance. This was by far the BEST home cooking I've ever had. Sylvia Mae's gumbo is the best I've ever eaten, and I'vehad The Gumbo Shop's gumbo in New Orleans!! We also had the Chicken-fried steak with mashed potatoes and some tasty purple hullpeas. Don't pass up the hot-water cornbread. De-lish-us!! Only wish I would have saved room for the homemade coconut cream pie. Read more
This was an all-around wonderful experience. There is a really homey feel and everyone talks together as a group. Mrs. Sylvia... and her family, employees and the other customers made our meal a very enjoyable, fun time. And the absolute best smothered porkand banana pudding I have had in my life. The chicken fried steak, Mac and cheese, fried okra, green beans, and hot watercornbread were all amazing, too. The lemonade is real, and very good. We will definitely be back. Read more
We love eating here. Everything on the menu is pea pickin good... We had Coconut Cream pie and Chocolate pie for dessert. Two... thumbs up. And Sylvia Mae is the sweetest person you'll ever meet. No matter what your ride is, from a motorcycle, to an 18wheeler, there is plenty of parking. Read more
