Reviews for Maruzzella in New York, NY
Consistently excellent food with friendly staff. A neighborhood gem.
I was a bit hesitant to order the Rotolo di Pasta since I typically am not a huge fan of spinach, but boy am I glad that I did.... This has been my favorite Italian dish in the city so far, tasted very fresh and the flavors meshed together beautifully. Wouldhighly recommend! Read more
Now I know why this place is empty!!!! There is absolutely no welcoming vibe...the owner, manager and waiters could be working... at a funeral home...no personality...no smiles - nothing! The manager outside smoking constantly/owner sitting at table...allappear miserable! No background music in this dead restaurant...thank you first avenue for the spark on a beautiful day! If youare younger than 75 yrs and live further than 0.5 of a block pass this joint...it is a waste of your precious time and money!!!#doesanyoneworkhere #ineffectiveansentmanagement Read more
Best fried calamari in the area. Home made para is excellent. Gnocchi Bolognese is not in the menu, but you may try it. The... lasagna is excellent flavorful and is big enough to share. The tiramisu needs more bitter coffee flavor. No refill forsoda???????????. Great service Read more
Came here one day for dinner when the Turkish restaurant across the street was super crowded and wow was I impressed. The waiter... was very knowledgable about everything on the menu and the wine selections, and all around extremely friendly. I had thebolognese and the overall interior decor of the restaurant is very nice in my opinion. If you are looking for a solid Italianfood spot on the Upper East Side then I recommend Maruzella. To be honest, this is not the most outstanding food in the neighborhood, but it is a lovely neighborhood restaurant evocative of... earlier times in the Upper East Side. The staff is very eager to please and there is no rush to push dinners out. Ultimately, this is a nice place for a leisurely cocktail and dinner. Read more
If I could give Maruzzella's 6 stars I would. We stopped in at 7:30 on a Friday night, with no reservations, and the staff went... out of their way to find a place for the four of us. We started out with baby artichokes that were pan roasted in olive oil andserved with thin crispy slices of garlic chips and small unpitted olives. Delicious. The artichokes were tender and the heartshad that perfect creamy consistency once you started chewing on them, the garlic chips were sweet and mild, and the olivesadded the perfect sharpness to each bite. What a treat. Now..... my main course was so tasty and savory that I actually passedup desert because I didn't want to introduce any new flavors to my palette. I had the rigatoni cipullo. A plate of perfectlydone, al dante rigatoni in a light cream sauce with blended sweet sausage, prosciutto, onions and a touch of cinnamon. Don't befooled, when you see the meat in the description you might think there would be chunks of meat tossed into the light creamsauce, and you would be wrong. The meat is pureed with the cream sauce and the cinnamon, creating this silky sauce of lovethat I wanted to bury my face in. Instead, what I actually did was carefully slide two rigatoni onto the fork tines through theholes, and slowly savored each bite until there were only six rigatoni left, and stopped, because I was just at that place whereI felt like I was floating. Just full enough to be satisfied, and at the point where I knew that if I had eaten the last six, itwould have pushed me over that edge where I would have felt that uncomfortable fullness, and I didn't want to risk anythingdetracting from how satisfied and comfortable I felt. This was one of the best pasta dishes I have ever had. Wonderfully warmand accommodating staff, delicious original recipes, and extremely reasonably priced. The trifecta of a perfect meal on theUpper East side of Manhattan. P.S. my dinner mates had tagliatelle alla bolognese, linguin Read more
A real down-to-earth, "from my family to yours" type of Italian restaurant with a simple, flavourful, and excellently prepared... menu of Italian classics. Grilled calamari were excellent, a warm salad of shrimp and spiralled Zucchini fresh and succulent. Home-made pasta tagliatelle with seafruit was a total hit. Classic desserts rounded out a great night out. Read more
