This week I’m staying at the Holiday Inn Financial District in Manhattan. Attached to the hotel is the “restaurant (note,... I’m using that term loosely). This “dark, room” is definitely not somewhere that you’d want to eat your breakfast from. It’s dirty, the staff do not understand English as they’re all Chinese and the food service area was disgusting. There isnothing nice about this venue and it is a shame because, in the right hands, it could be a gold mine. Maybe it’s a front forsomething but it sure isn’t a great eating experience. Avoid! We stayed at the Holiday Inn for 4 nights, but we didn't discover St. George until the 3rd morning. We went both the 3rd and 4th... mornings for breakfast. It was amazing. Each day we were greeted by Bernardo and Brian. Both were incredibly friendly andaccommodating. They made us feel right at home, and the service was super fast with endless offerings of refills on coffee anddrinks. The portions were huge. When we weren't able to finish the full meals, they were quick to offer us a take outcontainer. Everything was delicious, and it was very fast service, which we appreciated since we wanted to get moving for theday. The friendliness of the 2 guys made our mornings. From your 3 Canadian guests last week, thank you for some great meals andconversation! Read more

What's the purpose of having a restaurant inside a church if you're going to remove all traces of the church? This place looks... like a deli with a bar, (including a mirrored ceiling, so no arches) so if you're looking for some kind of historical ambiancethis definitely isn't it. Read more

It was actually one of my restaurant experiences that stood out of not being a good one. I took a group of 17 guests to this... restaurant and was very sad on how the service went down. We were served fast and it was somewhat efficient, but we felt like wewere bothering the servers when we needed either more cheese, a spoon or such. And this was a group that was not demanding. Whenit came down to paying, the servers came to the table and just yelled out the prices. I had to intervene and say that this isnot a friendly way of presenting the bill. I think that maybe some things were lost in translation, since the servers grew upspeaking another language. At one point however - especially in NYC - you need to learn the basics: A smile goes a long way, aplease and a thank you does, as well as the overall tone when you're serving. Food wise, it was nothing to write home about. Thesalads were fine, the black bean burger really strange and we didn't or couldn't eat it. The rigatoni was fine, but the meat ontop of it was not. My group was not excited and I don't see myself back here any time soon. Read more
