This week I’m staying at the Holiday Inn Financial District in Manhattan. Attached to the hotel is the “restaurant (note,... I’m using that term loosely). This “dark, room” is definitely not somewhere that you’d want to eat your breakfast from. It’s dirty, the staff do not understand English as they’re all Chinese and the food service area was disgusting. There isnothing nice about this venue and it is a shame because, in the right hands, it could be a gold mine. Maybe it’s a front forsomething but it sure isn’t a great eating experience. Avoid! We stayed at the Holiday Inn for 4 nights, but we didn't discover St. George until the 3rd morning. We went both the 3rd and 4th... mornings for breakfast. It was amazing. Each day we were greeted by Bernardo and Brian. Both were incredibly friendly andaccommodating. They made us feel right at home, and the service was super fast with endless offerings of refills on coffee anddrinks. The portions were huge. When we weren't able to finish the full meals, they were quick to offer us a take outcontainer. Everything was delicious, and it was very fast service, which we appreciated since we wanted to get moving for theday. The friendliness of the 2 guys made our mornings. From your 3 Canadian guests last week, thank you for some great meals andconversation! Read more

What's the purpose of having a restaurant inside a church if you're going to remove all traces of the church? This place looks... like a deli with a bar, (including a mirrored ceiling, so no arches) so if you're looking for some kind of historical ambiancethis definitely isn't it. Read more

It was actually one of my restaurant experiences that stood out of not being a good one. I took a group of 17 guests to this... restaurant and was very sad on how the service went down. We were served fast and it was somewhat efficient, but we felt like wewere bothering the servers when we needed either more cheese, a spoon or such. And this was a group that was not demanding. Whenit came down to paying, the servers came to the table and just yelled out the prices. I had to intervene and say that this isnot a friendly way of presenting the bill. I think that maybe some things were lost in translation, since the servers grew upspeaking another language. At one point however - especially in NYC - you need to learn the basics: A smile goes a long way, aplease and a thank you does, as well as the overall tone when you're serving. Food wise, it was nothing to write home about. Thesalads were fine, the black bean burger really strange and we didn't or couldn't eat it. The rigatoni was fine, but the meat ontop of it was not. My group was not excited and I don't see myself back here any time soon. Read more

I had a craving for spaghetti and meatballs and this tavern is downstairs in the lobby. It was dry, barely had any sauce in the... serving and the meatballs were frozen. I had to throw it out. Read more

After a windy night at the ice cubes in Pier 17, my friends and I were in need of dinner. There isn’t much of restaurants... around the South Seaport area and this place popped up. Despite the low reviews, we took a chance on this tavern because it is ahistorical landmark and the affordable prices compared to other Manhattan establishments. Our meal was meh. First, the hostesswas surprised we had reservations. I totally get it, the place was empty, but still, don’t be shocked. Then there are twomenus: American and Chinese. That was a surprise to me to offer Chinese food because all the pictures on yelp were American. Inperusing the menu, I chose to eat from the Chinese menu because it was sharable. I shared orange beef, friend rice combo andstring beans with pork as our main dishes. We ordered soup dumplings for the table as appetizers. The other diners ordered aburger and chicken sandwich. They ordered buffalo chicken wings to share as an appetizer. The Chinese main course dishessignificantly came out first, which resulted half of the party eating and the other half salivating. The Chinese food wasdecent. It is your typical neighborhood Chinese joint you order to go. The saving grace was the soup dumplings, which wasactually good. The dumplings came in last, similar to the buffalo chicken wings. The random order of the dishes coming outstill boggles my mind, but it is the St. George tavern, anything goes! The other half received their dishes, with the chickensandwich bread toasted (did not request to be toasted) and the burger with no avocado, which is part of the dish. The buffalowings were also delicious. I forgot to mention the lychee martini, delicious, string and paired well with the Chinese food. Read more

Fantastic American restaurant (there is Chinese upstairs but the main restaurant is a typical menu). Great service, cosy feel... and also has really tasty breakfast options for only ~10USD. I would highly recommend the Trio Slider Breakfast, and thepotatoes on the side of most items are amazing! Read more
