Even though it looks delicious, it is not. Udon is full of sugar. Udon pasta is too soft. And you cannot even taste the wagyu... beef. You don't have to make everything sugary like crazy just because people like it. you have to show some respect fortraditional tastes. You must preserve the originality. How to turn udon noodles into a mcdonalds quality meal and get $100 forthat sugary taste. The perfect place for those without any taste buds. What is good? Salmon fish was quality. And the staff isfriendly. But for a place famous for udon, it was the one of the most fast food taste not sophisticated udon we have ever tried.Since the food is not particularly cheap, the place doesn’t deserve more than one star. Food 6/10 Decent udon, wasn’t outstanding. A little too salty without any complexity in the flavors. Still ate a decent amount... because I love the chew of the udon, but nevertheless it was slightly disappointing. Atmosphere 7/10 Very average restaurant,minimal and a little dim inside. Very popular restaurant, be sure to reserve prior to going. We missed our reservation due to parking issues and were seated on... the first floor all the way in the back right next to the restroom. The food was alright, fast service. Uni could have beencleaned better. Read more
Great food, big portions, low prices (especially Mon to Wed with all day happy hour), large number of options including sushi,... sashimi and appetizers, nice ambience and decorations especially near the bar, clean. Would definitely revisit. They also havedividers between each table. We had the spicy garlic chicken and shrimp dumpling for starters and both were really good. Forthe entree I had the truffle crab cream udon noodle and it was amazing. The broth was creamy, rich and flavorful, the noodle hada great bite and there was a good amount of mushrooms and crab meat. Very filling BIG bowl of udon. I got spicy tantan(minced pork w/sesame oil), but it wasn’t spicy, had two or three shishito... peppers inside already, but tangy instead and a lil over salty. Would come again to try other udons tho. I added appetizersshishito peppers and soy garlic into my udon soup broth when it all came, it was good, but alone its salty. This was by far the best bowl of udon I’ve very had. The sukiyaki beef was unbelievably flavorful and the beef itself was... delightfully cooked. It was around medium, really tender, which is such a delight since so many souls will end up a little toughif overcooked. The sushi was solid, definitely really fresh. The udon is the real star of the show though! Highly, highlyrecommended. The interior of the restaurant is beautiful, too. Read more
Upscale Japanese noodle chain, this review is for the Union Square location. The good: - Large selection of udon, sushi and... roll options. - Upscale ambiance. - some creative appetizers, spicy tuna in a cone, picture included. - Flavors are decent, butnot fantastic. The not so good: - very pricy. - my dish which is pictured, uni, crab and salmon roe on rice was $40, but I luvUni so was willing to pay the price. - Flavors are decent, but no fantastic, I put this comment in both areas, since i felt thetaste and flavors were some where in the middle. - They seemed to be in a rush to get us finished and out the door. All in all,if you're willing to pay the upscale prices, this chain mildly delivers, but by no means is it a fantastic experience. Read more
Such good noodles! I was so so impressed by how yummy the udon here was. Prices are pretty standard across the menu between... $20-30, and there are so many options. The atmosphere in the restaurant is also really great - it feels so well designed andhip. Great experience from start to finish! Read more
