Updated review I go to both of the side-by-side businesses here at least once weekly. As a Dominican, I'm uniquely qualifed to... say that Maria's cooking is phenomenal. These ladies treat you like family and it comes through in flavor! (This is the sideunder the "Gourmet" sign). There's always a spread of options, with more to choose from the earlier in the lunch hour yougo. The more classic American fare is on the right - the door under the "Lunch" side of the restaurant signage. Their menu isextensive, they're fast, affordable, and the food never disappoints. This place is frequented by folks in Newark City Hall andthe Municipal Court down the street. *** Delicious food (both sides of the business!) and warm, welcoming, friendly owners andemployees. I love Maria's Gourmet! Her food is always on point and she has a lot of variety in lunch entree meats. Very humble and polite... business owner. She makes you feel like you're at home. I definitely recommend this place! Read more
There's actually two spots here both have great options! I love the pernil that Maria makes, unlike most options for this in the... area she always adds greens to the plate, this makes for a great well rounded meal. Maria cooks Hispanic cuisine delicious, even when it's such a small place. She cooks lunches for all workers in the area. Not a... fancy restaurant but delicious and affordable Latin food...Arroz y Habichuelas...Arroz con Pollo...etc. Pork Ribs, excellentSalmon weekly and many other dishes. Gotta try the newark wrap. And their gyro is a belly buster????, Comes with fries and only 7 bucks!! The service here is also... really good and I will definitely be coming back on the regular. Ladies behind the counter are very nice. Doesn't save them from the fact they fill the plate with rice more than anything else.... The ribs were delicious albiet greasy. Would recommend for a quick dinner or lunch. Read more
