Being "the oldest Tavern in America" it had to be on my list of places to visit on a tour of New England, from the UK. It's... reputation for excellence did not disappoint. Food and service were brilliant. The tavern has grown by integrating adjoiningrooms over It's lifetime, but still retains character and charm. Business Casual dress code is slightly less formal than the UK. Read more

We had an amazing dining experience here!!!! Such a beautiful venue with tons of history. We sat upstairs by a window in a... fairly intimate setting with mood lighting. We ate the burrata & tomatoes for appetizer- delicious! I had the duck and myhusband had the beef wellington, both were so well prepared, fresh & flavorful! The service was excellent - I believe ourserver's name was Bryan - and overall such a memorable experience! Definitely make a reservation early & put this on the listfor your trip to Newport! Amazing food. Period. The mushroom risotto was outstanding, and was a nice vegetarian option. The duck was cooked to perfection,... just the right amount of fat and tasty skin. The beef Wellington was the best by far— medium rare, left us wanting more. Theserver was helpful after a little prodding and we were able to get a nice port to go with our taffy pudding. WOW. Making thisour annual place when visiting Newport! Read more

Love the atmosphere. The food was good. Some were amazing. Some were alright. The staff was really nice. A few things... though: 1) The dress code is not fully enforced. Although it said "Please no athletic wear or shoes, hats, sleeveless shirts ordistressed denim", on the website, I saw a few customers with athletic shoes and t-shirts. I don't think it's fair to me. Ibrought a pair of nice shoes to change specifically for the dinner at White Horse while I could have worn my comfortablesneakers. 2) Two issues with The Beef Wellington that I ordered. First, the beef was not fully wrapped with the puff pastrywhen the dish was served. There was a tear in the puff pastry (super minor). Second, the beed was supposed to be medium rare(see the photo). I didn't think it was medium rare although the server insisted that it was medium rare. They offered to make anew one for me, but I had a tight schedule that I couldn't afford to wait. So, I declined that offer. In terms of taste, thebeef was alright. It was different from the other Beef Wellington that I have had. Read more

Wonderful food, service and ambiance. We got the Rhode Island Clam Chowder, Beef Wellington, Lobster & Mushroom Ravioli, and... bread pudding. All were really delicious, though the beef was the stand-out star. Staff was very knowledgeable and attentivewhile still leaving space for us to enjoy conversation over our anniversary dinner. This place was on my bucket list for a longtime being the oldest restaurant in The country and finally I was able to dine in at... the restaurant. Overall experience was amazing. Service was excellent and staff was very nice. Attire is business casual if onewants to visit this place. They have some amazing Michelin star restaurant type quality food. Decor is very much like 1600’s(antique). They also have their own parking lot for customers. Food is a bit expensive but worth every dime you pay. Woulddefinitely recommend Read more
