Refused to seat us because a member of our party was wearing dark jeans. I’ve been there in the past. You can get equally... mediocre Italian food for less money at other restaurants in Marco. If you want excellent Italian, go to Sophia’s in Naples. Read more

I had always heard that Sal e Pepe was a great restaurant in Newtown, and one visit was all it took to solidify those claims!... For very good reason, they’ve swept the Connecticut Magazine awards for years. We had the cheesy garlic bread for anappetizer, and even though it had quite the blanket of mozzarella on it, it was a surprisingly light bread that my fiancé and Ihad no problems taking down ourselves. There’s also a hint of lemon in the butter, which they also bring with the normal breadfor the table, and it’s really tasty! Our other appetizer was the angus beef bites, and we found the meat to be tender, andthe potato croquettes to be a delicious topper. The star of the show for me was Mrs. Marini’s Lasagna Bolognese. Though I’mItalian, I’m not usually the biggest lasagna lover because I’m used to my family making it with a ton of ricotta, whichI’m the biggest fan of. This lasagna is literally the best I’ve ever had because it had the most layers of pasta I’ve everseen, with no ricotta and a blend of cheeses instead! The sauce was also delicious and had just the right amount of meat mixedin. If you don’t get the lasagna on your visit, you’re missing out! My fiancé loved the parmesan tilapia, which is theirbest seller, and I also loved the short rib ravioli - the meat was so flavorful in this dish! For dessert, we enjoyed thetiramisu and the drunken cherries, which we had never seen on a menu before. We loved this restaurant so much, we were about togo back in a couple days had the timing worked out when we were in the area. I told the owner I’ll be bringing my Italiangrandfather here to try that lasagna! Read more

Disappointed. I've heard good things. Service was slow. Had to ask for drinks after being there for about 10 minutes. Always had... to get waiting staff attention to get anything. The picture had asparagus. See the tiny green round things..cut stems 3)16"thick no tops. Tops saved for different menu items I guess. Bland and over priced for what we got. Not returning. Read more

Had a wonderful experience at Sal e Pepe in Newtown yesterday. The food was amazing, but I want to say thank you to our server,... Lance. Your service was impeccable. Very friendly, helpful and you make the most amazing espresso martinis. Sal e Pepe’s foodis always great, but thank you to Lance for making it an overall great experience! Will definitely be back and hope to sit inyour section. You are a great representation of Sal e Pepe! Read more

One of the best restaurants in lower CT. Always a fresh meal, with perfect portions, made with care. Reccomend the chicken... scarpiello (or scarpiello pizza), ricotta gnocchi, chicken parmigiana, and ANY dessert - especially the Nutella Mousse Pie.Outdoor seating is a huge plus as well! Read more
