Unfortunately, after hearing mixed experiences from others, we visited the Rock last night. For three people, the bill was $55.... The first item arrived still frozen. When I went up to the counter to let them know, the employee who was training a newemployee, stared at me then picked up the food with her bare hands and then looked back at me. I shared that it was stillfrozen in the middle. She said she would go talk to the manager. All I was expecting was for a fresh order to be cookedcompletely. And 3-4 minutes of discussing it with her manager, in plain sight of me, she ultimately came back and said theywould replace the order and bring it out when it was finished. Seemed very odd sequence of events. This did sum up the servicehowever. They were not helpful or welcoming, could not provide descriptions or differences between menu items and then we sawinteractions the manager had with other customers where she would not say anything at all. She would walk up to the table,aggressively deliver the food, in one case bagged to go and the other for dine in, without saying anything at all and not evenmaking eye contact. Food was simple fast-food quality, at best, when cooked completely. While I wanted to like the Rock and haveanother Uptown option for food, the combination of terrible service, poorly prepared and low quality food, I can safely say Iwill not return and will not be able to recommend it to anyone. It was my first time eating here and trying gyro. The food was very good. I got the gyro special and my husband got the super... philly cheesesteak. We loved how good it tasted, and the fries were crispy and fluffy. The service was also great. Read more
First time trying this place! It ROCKs!!! Ordered two 1/2 pound hummus and pita for the kids and a Gyro for myself and my wife.... The pitas are so good and warm. They even asked us if we needed more pita twice!!! Both different cooks made sure we had morethan enough pita for the hummus. The gyro meat was top notch and so fresh! This was a very nice place. It was clean and the staff was very friendly. They had some vegan options which is terrific. It... is in walking distance from Illinois State University. I love The Rock restaurant. The food is pretty authentic Greek, but there are also items for appetites that aren't quite that... Mediterranean. The people who work there are very professional but still friendly, and they make whatever you want to yourspecifications. I highly recommend the Rock Salad, as well as their gyros. The burgers are pretty awesome, too. Read more
No idea why this place has good reviews! HORRIBLE. Dirty tables with a film on them, overpriced for small portions. The gyro is... tiny, sauce is watery. Beef was gross, burger was plain. Worst customer experience. Skip this one, so many better places. Read more
