We just had the most amazing dinner here. Every single dish was so packed with flavour and perfectly cooked/prepared. The... highlights were the beef tartare, chicken liver pate, croquets, beef pie and pappardelle. All baking and bread items wereSUPERB! Our evening meal was one of the greatest meals I\'ve had in my life, and I\'ve been to many, many places. I texted that to my... boyfriend back in Los Angeles, and he replied \"oh dang, that\'s serious\". What a gem!\n\nWe had the beef pie, the chicken, andthe steak. We had started with bread and cultured butter and the truffle and cheese croquettes. Then we got every dessert. Idon\'t know how to use words to describe the depth and truth of the flavours, but I can say each item\'s intended flavour isastronomical. The highlights, if I can even pick, were the cardamom sauce with the deeply cocoa chocolate cake, the beef piejuice and crust, the light as ambrosia pear honey cake, the delicate sugar brûlée\'d (?) croissant apple tart... the trufflecroquette filled with warm melted cheese... oh and the cocktails were special too. I had the Silk Road Quench cherry tea andgin, and it was an astonishing colour and flavour. Also, the fresh loaf of bread was truly dreamy. An eggy softness andlightness. The food at Fox & Monocle Cafe was delicious! It rivals any 5 star dining experience across Canada. The dishes were creative,... beautiful and incredibly tasty. That atmosphere was relaxed and service staff were lovely. Absolutely a must try! Read more
Wow. I mean, wow. I approached this new and unassuming restaurant with its lovely ocean-view location with few expectations. One... bite of my beef carpaccio starter, however, and I knew something was different here…something rather spectacular. Abouthalfway through my linguini with truffles main I called our kind server over and said, “Tell me something about the chef.”It turns out there are two chefs who are very much in sync with each other. The server indicated that they were a strongculinary team. I said, “Hmmm, I think there’s more to this. Tell me more.” It turns out they’ve catered for Adele. Ohyeah, and something about being chefs for Kate and William‘s wedding . The server was serious. Don’t go for the credentials,though. Just go for the food. What a delight to continually stop after a bite and struggle for words to describe the flavor.Yep, it was that good. Read more
Easily among the top 5 restaurants I\'ve been to on Vancouver island. The menu takes classic dishes and pushes them into a... modern and adventurous space. I had the cod pie (which was one of the best fish dishes I\'d had), saurkraut crackers, in-housesmoked salmon. Staff was very nice and knowledgeable about what they were serving. Quiche was very good and breakfast sandwich was good too.... The only negative I would say is the lack of selection. Which I\'m sure as they progress will change dramatically. Therestaurant was clean and well kept. I\'ll be going back in a couple months and we\'ll just review at that point once I\'ve beenable to try more items. Read more
A fantastic lunch cafe food experience at Canada\'s No. 1 restaurant. Sharing it with my foodie daughter is even better. Best... espresso ever and fantastic ham sandwich, breakie sandwiches and deserts. Read more
