Excellent food, excellent drinks. Love these cats. Had the chef's choice of tacos, was pork belly, chicken chicharrón and... grilled salmon. Pork belly holds a special place in my heart but the salmon was a sneaky king of the plate. Wife had cheeseenchiladas and we shared an amazing plate of nachos. Will always be returning. I've seen the future of the food that will go into my mouth and it all begins and ends here with Sol bee Taco, the latest... restaurant from the family that brought you Humble Bee Cafe ? an oasis for thoughtful, creative, and really good food with a newAmerican sensibility, in the heart of the San Fernando Valley, otherwise a wasteland for such things. There are great optionshere for vegetarians and gluten-free folks aloke. There are two different vegetarian tacos, both of which are deliciousincluding the Ajo Seta Taco, which has a good portobello mushroom flavor to it (though I did lean towards adding salsa to it togive it more oomph. I?d also love cheese on this one.) AND the Verde Machina taco (possibly the most biologically steam-punktaco name ever) which also had good flavor, especially with lime squeezed on it. Nice and tangy! You can get a taco plate where you can mix any 3 tacos which then come with beans and rice. I did this and had the pinto beans which had a mild flavorand which were hearty. The star of the meal, for me, was the Butternut Squash and Kale Quesadilla! (I?ve gone back and hadthese 2 more times since this first visit!) It has tons of flavor and it was certainly the best use of cheese in everything weordered. It came with a very delicious salsa, and a vaguely Indian cream sauce which I loved. The star of the meal for my wife,was the Chili-Lime Cucumber and Guacamole starter. She loves it. Both of our dishes and the sides were beautifully presentedwith a little edible flowers, all kinds of delectable sauces, and were really just a pleasure to both look at as well aseat. They also do a housemaid chips here. We have these a couple of times and both times we found them to be a little bit toothick for artists as well as (and again both times) a little bit over cooked for chips. DELICIOUS and AUTHENTIC. Bold flavors. They put nopales in the asada tacos, and crema! I was SO impressed. And their take on a... michelada was refreshing with the pickled cauliflower and carrot.
