My husband and I needed a place to stay last weekend for a wedding we went to in Norwich. After doing much research all the... hotels out that way had terrible reviews. We stumbled upon Fred's Inn and can't say enough. It's an old place so it had somenegatives such as the room smelled like cigarette smoke and the TV kept cutting in and out but nothing too serious. The womanwho takes care of the rooms, Denise was fantastic. Unfortunately we were not able to try the food because we had the wedding butthe menu looked great! We stayed at Fred?s Inn this past weekend for 2 nights. It was very clean and we had a very large room. Only downfalls we?re the... bed was not that comfortable and the shower did not have great water pressure. This review is for the restaurant only, we did not stay in a room. Fred's is... Fine. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is... very dark and steakhouse-esque, and doesnt seem very visited for lunch on the weekends as during our visit there was only oneother patron, at the bar, for the entire duration of our visit. We were able to seat ourselves, and It took a short while forus to be greeted for the first time at our table. We waited a somewhat reasonable amount of time between ordering and beingserved, considering we were the only ones in the joint ordering food. The server did a fine job keeping up with our requestsand didnt make us wait. For this visit I ordered a burger and fries, while the others in my party ordered the philly cheesesteak and the chicken fingers. The fries, both sweet potato and regular, were seasoned and tasted good. The burger and thechicken fingers both came out a bit overcooked, as the burger was a bit dry and the chicken fingers tasted as if they had stayedin the fryer a little too long. Overall, Fred's was a fine lunch spot, but it really didn't have anything that would leave alasting impression, at least not on our visit. Read more
This is a experience my mother had in this establishment for dinner, celebrating her birthday. The food on the buffet was cold... the veggies were soggy the mac & cheese with bacon had no bacon and was very dried out the fried chicken was cold and clearlyfrom a box the clams had very poor presentation the display station for the meat carving looked very dried out and not veryclean the rolls were stale and cold Moving on to the dessert table everything looks like it had been delivered that morning formy truck the cannolis were soft the only fruit that was available for a chocolate dipping station was cherries the mac & cheesewhich they had deemed twisted was actually just a different style of macaroni I did not see anyone refreshing anything on theBuffet the entire time She was there incredibly poorly done very disappointed Read more
They run 3 restaurants and only one hotel. The hotel is run down and is not in good shape. If you arrive after 9 pm during the... week, you have to call someone that does not have there voice mail setup. Then you might have to sit there for over an hour toget your key to your room. I ask for a bottom floor room when I booked. I was on the top floor. They did not want to move me ormy dad and aunt to others rooms. The maintenance is not being done. There is dripping faucets and shower heads. The furniture isoutdated. No screens in the windows. Power went out for 2 days. Not a member of management or the owners came to check on theirguess. Out the gate I have to say the service was EXCELLENT. Neil consistently checked in, was friendly and cheerful, just a wonderful... service experience. The 2 stars is because of the food. I got the filet mignon. The outside was so burnt it was inedible, yetsomehow the inside was still raw beyond the medium rare I ordered. Medium rare ain't *chewy*. On top of this, there was somesort of lemon flavor throughout the meat that completely overpowered any actual meat flavor. Read more
