Ordered Easter dinner take-out yesterday and the food was great -- the ham and the scalloped potatoes were the kids' favorite,... but I loved the brussel sprouts too. The pickup process is executed without any in person interaction (they put your order on atable outside when they see you pull up.) They are offering family-style dinners to go (super discount on the Sunday option),as well as individual menu items. My kids have already asked if we can order from C&M again this week. Read more
Great live jazz trio on Tuesday nights featuring an occasional guest vocals. Interesting, well prepared small plates on the... menu, decent wine selection, several local beers on tap, inventive cocktails and friendly professional service all tucked into aclassic New England style country setting. Across from the Norwich Inn, where we visit every year, Carpenter and Main is easy to overlook, but it is more than worth... searching out. By the way, the website photos dont capture the close and subtle conviviality of the place - except for thephotos of the bar, which do. The dining area behind the bar has a tucked-away alcove for two, which we only discovered in ourmost recent visit. The food and service are simply outstanding. If you're in the area - Hanover, Dartmouth, King Arthur cookingschool -Search it out if you have to, don't overlook it.. Read more
Enjoyed many facets about this place. Lovely rustic decor and an amazing staff. I would bump it to a 5 star, but the food was... underwhelming and definitely could use some TLC from the fine folks in the kitchen. We received the Thai lettuce wraps, and itwas clear that nobody bothered to check the product before selling it. Not only was there far too much fish sauce in the pork,it was soupy and quite frankly foul. My escargots were a classic preparation, but needed salt desperately. If one does notproperly season escargot, and serves them with a tomato based sauce, the predominant taste becomes the slugginess (earth) of thesnails, as opposed to their natural meaty bouquet of flavors. I won't say that I didn't like it. It is ok to try French Cuisine once in a while. It was very loud in here. I personally don't... like the bland food. Both the large dishes we ordered were very bland. Small plates were much better. Read more
It's supposed to be more on the "high-end" side of restaurants. Definitely a solid place to go if you're not too picky, but if... you're looking for an amazing meal, this place is a bit of a let down. The meatballs were decent, but definitely not cookedproperly–in the sense that they were a bit dry and rubbery. The chowder lacked flavor, but was alright with some salt, whichmeans the chef isn't quite an expert at making chowder, but he came close. The bruschetta, which all the waiters mispronounced,was very disappointing–the prime rib was a bit dry, and there was nothing else on it, so it was like dry shredded meat on aslice of bread, rather than actual bruschetta. The seafood casserole was lacking in flavor and not even close to being worth the$29 price. I'd be willing to pay about half the amount for the quality. If you're looking for a great meal, this is not theplace. The atmosphere is nice, the servers are friendly and fast, but the chef is very disappointing. I do not really want toreturn to this place, as there are far superior restaurants in the area, as far as the food quality goes. All and all, it was agood time, but definitely not what I was expecting given its reputation. Read more
I've always enjoyed eating here, friendly staff and tasty food. Quite a cozy atmosphere on the pub side and a nicer, slightly... more formal atmosphere in the dining rooms. I do wish the beers rotated out more frequently, but they are always solid choices.Excellent cocktails. Read more
I had the Hanger Steak au poivre and for dessert the panacotta…….both were fantastic. It is a very lovely restaurant but I... think they could benefit if the music was more jazz and less 80’s bad dance music. Read more
