We had a great experience in 1947, The food was fresh and tasty, the atmosphere was relaxing, and the staff was friendly. They... even had live music that added an ambiance to 1947. One little thing is the order in which the food was served. We got the maincourse, then the appetizers, and then the naan but they looked swamped in the kitchen, that did not change our opinion about theexperience. Read more

All the good reviews we heard about 1947 Norwood were true! We?ve visited multiple times so far in the span of a month. So far... we?ve tried: chai, filter coffee, the 1947 combo, and the spicy Kerala chicken appetizer, rava masala dosa, Hyderabadi dumchicken biryani. The chicken appetizer was crunchy and tasty but would prefer an Indian type chutney with it vs mayo. The dumchicken biryani was tasty but lacked salt. On the other side, it wasn?t as spicy as some other Indian restaurants make it, so wecould it finish it easily. It also has about three large pieces of chicken and they were well seasoned and cooked just right. The chai was just ok, probably wouldn?t order it again. The best of the lot were the 1947 combo (two pieces of idli, one meduvada, sambar, and two types of chutney - coconut, peanut) and the crispy rava masala dosa (again the same sambar, two types ofchutney, but also with a spiced potato mixture) and finally the filter coffee. My only complaint about the coffee (and hence, not a five star review) is that the portion is very small, served in a single use cup, and is $5. That is way too much for thatserving size. It would be great if they either priced it better or doubled the quantity. Overall, definitely worth a visit! Read more

Best Indian restaurant in Boston(Norwood) ???? This is the best meal I've ever had. We had ordered chicken biryani and tandoori... sampler. They were mouthwateringly good, and the flavors were spot on. The 1947 Tandoor Sampler stood out to me with itsauthentic Indian spices. The service was impeccable too. The manager was very friendly and made sure we had a good time. Thankyou for the wonderful service. Can?t wait to return. Read more

Not a place to go for good food. They cover the bad food with music and ambience. The menu looks curated to handle South Indian... cuisine, but misses horribly. The Biryani was basically curry rice and the street style Gobi fry had the batter still in, withhorrible tasting sauce. Read more

The place is so nice... the manager was so nice and helpful, he explained everything for me so I ordered chicken Manchurian. I... fell in love with the chicken immediately. It melt in my mouth. Tried mango lassi for the first time and it''s one of myfavorite drink there. Thanks and I will definitely visit again. Read more

One word before I start: if you go without expectations then you will like it. Good things first: reasonable ambiance and pretty... large seating area with good service. Their menu is extensive and will be hard to find a restaurant with such an extensivedishes in greater Boston area. Now let?s talk about the food. Not bad and not so good. An American customer would love it andand Indian with full expectations about the actual taste, would be bit disappointed. For a fun side, my wife said after havingthe fish named ?quit India chicken fry?, this is the chicken Brit?s ate before they quit India and they never wanted to comeback again ????. IHO, don?t go by fancy names and seems that they are not that great. Secondly, South Indian dishes are also notup to the expectations. Mostly the Hydrabdi/Andra dishes seems to be okay. Final verdict: go without expectations about thequality of the food, you will like it (NB: not love it). Having said, it?s an at least one time try place for Indian food loversas you gets lots of choices with ?somewhat? okay taste that you will not hate. Read more
