I ordered the beef short ribs. They were in a brown gravy along with green beans and black-eyed peas and yams. The ribs were... burned and the tast was not good. The peas were way under cooked and hard in the middle. The green beans were over cooked andmushy. The yams were also under cooked. Then at the checkout the cashier did not have a mask on and sneezed twice withoutcovering her mouth. I should have left at that point!! It's a shame ???? but I will not go back again. It's too bad that thequality of service and the cooking has dropped so low. They also need to clean the floor. I'll miss my once a month visit butthat's it. No more Lena's for me!!! Read more
DISAPPOINTING I was sure looking forward to some authentic Soul Food for dinner after a long and difficult day. I drove 20... minutes in the other direction to feast on some great food, but was sorely disappointed even before I took a bite. The guybehind the cash register was a delight. He cheered the whole place up with his positive and friendly attitude. The girls takingthe order and dishing out the entrees and side dishes, not so much. If it's your first time there, make sure you know whatyou're ordering because patience is in short supply or non-existent. Friendly service is NOT a phrase I'd use to describe thefood line or when you order. Clearly they hate their job, and first timers. I ordered the large fries chicken plate which has 4pieces of chicken, and received two wings, a leg, and a breast. A chicken wing for $4 more! I won't be recommending this placeto anyone I know. Visited Oakland from Cincinnati. Was looking for a soul food restaurant and chose Lena’s based on the reviews. OMG! My... family and I have not had soul food like this in awhile. From the blackened catfish, mac and cheese, green, cabbage, yams, peachcobbler, Chicken; yes we tried it all! It was AMAZING! Fast and friendly service. FANTASTIC FOOD. Read more

Finally had an opportunity to visit Lena's Soul Food Restaurant, located in Oakland, CA. Although the restaurant just does... take-out only. I found the restaurant staff to be very friendly, the food selection great. I decided to have the fried fishplate and the food fresh. The portion sizes are hearty, allowing for you to either share a meal or spilit the entree into twoseparate meals. I will most certainly return in the future. Read more

I went to Lena’s on Sunday and the food was amazing!!!! I didn’t have any complaints. The yams were PERFECT! They were the... best yams I’ve had in a long time. The mac n cheese was to die for. I had a side of cabbage that was good too. The cornbreadtaste like my grandma’s cornbread. The sweet potato pie was everything!!! I will definitely be back this Sunday. The customerservice was amazing too. Shout out to Jamiela who I spoke with on the phone while trying to catch them before they close duringmy 45 minute commute.
