Reviews for The Star on Grand in Oakland, CA
Good pizza, part of the little star chain. Place has a nice ambience also, I liked the brick wall interior. While the deep... dish pizza is great, the green goddess salad was extremely underwhelming - giant chunks of leaf that didn't lend themselves tobeing eaten as a salad, and little else in terms of flavor or texture. Stopped by for a Friday lunch. Their $11 personal pan lunch special is a good deal. The cornmeal crust was excellent. The Little... Star is a good option for vegetarians. The Paper Airplane is a good bourbon based drink. Read more
A crust to behold, made with cornmeal, becomes crispy and may well be the finest pizza crust I’ve encountered. Just look at... the picture. The tomatoes are as whole as they can be and still be considered sauce and the seasoning is perfect. The arugulasalad was also a real treat, fresh and delightful. Read more
OMG there was literally NOTHING I didn't enjoy there from our waiter, to our gem caesar salad, our custom deep dish pizza, my... wine & his whiskey drink, EVERYTHING was soooooooooo delicious ???? definitely found our new pizza place ???????? Read more
I’ve known about having celiac disease for over 13 years and although I know The Star on Grand doesn’t give any guarantee... for allergies, I was willing to risk it after so many terrible gluten free pizzas over the years. I’m happy to announce thatafter moving 31 times over 3 countries, this is the best I’ve ever had!! Perfectly chewy and just the right texture. (Highlyrecommend the Mediterranean!!) Read more
The Star is a very picturesque restaurant. The deep dish is unique though may not be your favorite if you like bread stick bread... as crust. I also had a good drink there with a friend. Couldn't give it a higher review. The long lines in the evening arejustified Read more
We checked out this gem thanks to Oakland Restaurant Week! Personal pan pizza + salad for just $10. At a 10-inch diameter, this... is the largest personal pan pizza I've gotten before. We ordered the chicken pesto and Hawaiian pizzas, both thin crust, androasted cauliflower to share. It would have been more than enough food without the app but glad we got the cauliflower! TheHawaiian pizza is a monthly special for January 2020. It includes FRESH pineapple (this really makes a difference!), pepperoni, and olives. I'm not someone who likes pineapple in their pizza, but I gotta say this one is the best one I've had. Probablybecause the pepperoni was so good. Discovering places like this one is why I LOVE Restaurant Weeks! Pros: great thin-crustpizza, good Happy Hour menu, good service, great value Cons: parking is rough (~5 spots are available next to the building butfill up fast), notably poor cell signal in the area (I have T-Mobile) Read more
Worst pick up experience I have ever had (even with the patience that comes from personally working in food service for 8+... years) - hot food was taken out of the warmer and left to sit on the counter for 20 minutes (even after I asked for it to goback in the warmer and was ignored) while the staff bumbled about and the bartender flirted with customers that just walked ininstead of making a drink order that had been placed 50 minutes ago. ALL the hot food was cold, multiple sides were forgotten, basic requests like "please no marinara" were ignored, and the bartender was openly rude and hostile after, again, failing tomake a drink for 50 minutes and taking longer to make a single togo drink than it took the kitchen to prepare 6 differentitems). Will never order take out from here again, would recommend steering clear. Read more
