Jon and his staff are the best of the best. We held our wedding reception last weekend at Castaway and everything was perfect.... Jon was super accommodating, the food was excellent, and the staff, including Kat, Sam, Eric, Justin and Natalie were topnotch. No detail was too small for Jon to address. Very cute porch area and friendly service. One of the very few restaurants that allows dogs on the porch. They still had their... happy hour oyster deal advertised, which is what drew me in, but they said it was no longer available for the season. It shouldbe removed from the board. I ordered a dozen oysters anyway, and not only were they stuck to the shell still, but they were theworst tasting oysters I’ve ever had. I couldn’t eat more than 3, as I worried they were off. I hosted a party at Castaway and it greatly exceeded my expectations! The food was so delicious. We had a party of about 20... women and with such a large amount of food I was impressed with how amazing everything tasted. The portions were large and wewere so stuffed. Everyone had such an amazing time and we sang and danced as the DJ was playing during our dinner. They evenmade us personalized menus. I highly recommend having dinner here. Jon is amazing! Came here for lunch with my family today and had a wonderful time! Staff was very attentive and helpful. Chef was super... accommodating to my wife’s dairy allergy. Great vibes. Great drinks. Castaway is a great restaurant. They had a loud but not bad band playing live music, good vibe, good drinks, and the food was... good. However if you go for dinner beware. The food is good but the chef LOVES pepper. I’ve been here twice, ordered a chickenpasta in 2021 and mahi mahi sandwich in 2022 (the menu changes so that’s a fun surprise ????????????) and both times the foodwas peppered to all hell. Chef thinks you can only blacken/char the food if you cover every inch with black pepper. The food wasstill good but please do a little less with the black pepper chef ????????. Much love Read more
We saw some negative reviews and were a bit nervous that it would be a letdown. We were pleasantly surprised! It was a rainy... day, so many other restaurants had closed kitchens closed -- but not Castaway! Natalia, our server, was very laid back andfriendly with us. Our food came out SO fast. The steak sandwich was incredible, and the shrimp tacos (though spicy) weredelectable. Would recommend. Read more
This place was terrible! We sat outside and the cushions on the chairs were filthy. I ordered a drink with blueberry stoli and... got the wrong vodka. My husband ordered the $42 prime rib special and it was fatty with watery potatoes. I asked if the shrimptaco were spicy and was told no, but they were very spicy and were burning my lips. My son ordered an appetizer which came outwith the dinners. With so many restaurants to choose from in Ocean Beach I will never return here! Read more
