I haven't been to Roots in 2 years. I used to love it so much. Today, I am so disappointed. I came in about 1:45. I didn't... realize the kitchen closed at 2:00. Google said the cafe was open until 3:00 so I figured I had plenty of time. There were a fewpeople in front of me so by the time I got to the register it was close to 2:00. All the menus were up on the screens breakfast,lunch etc. I wanted the small plate hummus and feta with cucumber and pita. I was told I could not have lunch, only breakfast. Iwas able to order quiche but no African Peanut soup. I ordered 2 bakery items to go and a Cafe au Lait. I love Anodyne coffeeand I got the Cafe Au Lait all the time 2 years ago because it was so fantastic! My quiche was heated so hot that I burned mymouth and the crust was burned on the bottom. My Cafe au Lait was basically water and milk. My broken Ninja coffee maker whichbrews only 2oz at a time makes a better coffee than what I received for $3.50. When my food was brought to my table I asked ifthere was some water I could have. I was seated at the very last table next to the doggy bakery window, I was told "Yeah we havewater down at the other end of the bar". Now I don't expect to be waited-on in a cafe situation; however, a little courtesy andconsientiousness would be nice. The young lady had just brought me my food, any customer-service minded individual would likelythink "I just gave her her food, I should grab her the water so she doesn't have to leave her food sitting, unattended, at thetable". The crew wasn't rude but they were definitely not friendly. I've worked on their side of the counter, it's not easy,foodservice is an exhausting and, more often than not, thankless job, I get it. The bottom-line is there is no business withoutthe customers. I ordered online never been here before looked good so I thought I would try it. I was going to wait outside for my order but... needed to use the bathroom and my husband said he was hungry so I thought I would checkout what they had see if there wasanything he would like. WOW, I'm impressed! The staff was friendly. The inside was beautiful open and so much to look at. Greatseating options too. Definitely a place worth more than a pick up and go. Will stop again and enjoy the atmosphere. Even my penfriend from Oregon wants to have some breakfast here when she visits. Read more
A happening place, bustling on a Tuesday morning. Had their breakfast burrito with egg, black beans, corn and sausage on a whole... wheat tortilla ($7). It was yummy! They serve breakfast all day. It was good. Coffee was okay but expensive. The food was good but I found pieces of plastic in my $11 wrap.
