Well what can I say. My fiance and I have driven past this place a million times and we always go, "oh my god that smells... amazing". So finally we stopped and it was one of the best decisions we have ever made. He has everything from deep fried wingsto catfish everything BBQ and cajun delights. We got the fried catfish, fried okra and a 4 wings and 6 fried shrimp meal. I'vehad all of these things before but it was as if I tasted them for the first time again. This man is a genius with food. Thecrunch from the breading was phenomenal and the flavor was other worldly. Tender, juicy shrimp and the wings were great. Tookall my will power not to eat my whole meal there. The will power did not last long as 5 hours later I finished my leftovers. DidI forget to mention the food was all over a bed of fries. We have been passing this little hidden gem for months since moving to the neighborhood. This night we stopped on an impulse... changing from the Mexican restaurant we had agreed on. Lucky for us we did. It was just before closing time but Jonathanwelcomed us in. We loved everything and there's so much to come back for. Great food and friendly staff! I highly recommend the brisket, greens, and candied yams. Other favorites around the table were... the gumbo, jambalaya, and fried fish. I'm not a fan of okra... but everyone else said the fried okra was really good :)Definitely gonna go back for more! Read more

Words can't even describe how incredible this place is. I had one of the best meals of my entire life- burnt ends with pineapple... baked beans and collard greens. Every employee was welcoming and friendly and when I heard they'll have live blues and jazz insix weeks... I knew this was everything you love about Kansas City wrapped up into a single package. I've been meaning to try this place out for a long time, finally got around to it today and OMG. I am extremely sorry it took... me so long. The smell...........the music............the atmosphere had me hooked before I got to the counter to order. Thenthen menu gave me pause because everything sounded and looked so good. The staff were the friendliest folks I've found at anyrestaurant recently. I ended up going with the BBQ chicken and fried sweet corn for my side. The chicken was fall off the bonetender and moist, plus it was perfectly seasoned. I ate almost the entire half chicken without any BBQ sauce it was so good. Idid use some BBQ sauce eventually just to try it out and it had exceptional flavor as well. Did I mention how friendly thestaff was? We have eaten there several times in the last couple days. It is so amazing! You can mix the BBQ and seafood to make platters,... everything is fresh. You do have to wait because it's fresh so either order online or relax in house. Everything has greatflavor! Read more

First time trying this place with my dad. There were so many menu options to choose from and the staff working were so helpful... in helping us decide which items to try. Tonight they were out of fish as well as Mac n cheese which were our first choices- sowe decided to try the rib dinner, chicken shrimp and crab gumbo as well as the shrimp po' boy. We were blown away by thewonderful flavors of the gumbo, easily our favorite out of the three items we tried. The ribs were delicious, fall off the bone,however, lacking a little in flavor. The shrimp po' boy was good, the shrimp were cooked perfectly, I wish there was a bit ofextra sauce or mayo of some sort on there but the coleslaw made up for it. Definitely got the most bang for our buck. Over allthis place was a hit and we'll be back for the gumbo for sure and hopefully be able to try the fish and Mac n cheese next time.Once again, the staff definitely made the experience, you can tell they put heart and soul into their cooking. The staff here are amazing. Customer kindness is what they do best. The seafood boil is flavorful. It's very spicy! Some of the... food can be heavily seasoned so ask for light seasoning if that's your preference. The fried okra is some of the best I'vetasted. The star of my order was the peach cobbler, yummy.
