We have been dining at Hiro 88 in Millard since June 2017. It started out with excellent food, atmosphere, and wines. In recent... years, unfortunately, the food and service have declined. We went for lunch on a Friday, thinking the food would be freshest. We could not have been more disappointed. I enjoy salads with carrot-ginger dressing. The salad they brought out was extremelywilted and dried-up, either from age or improper storage. I asked the person who I presumed to be some kind of manager for asalad that wasn’t dried out. He did not have the grace to even be embarrassed by the quality of the food, and brought areplacement salad that was slightly less wilted but had rotted greens. I decided not to risk finishing it. We had the sushi andsashimi plate, along with some a la carte sushi, and I tried a sake bomb. The fish portions appeared much smaller than onprevious visits, though the prices had not shrunk at all. More critically, the fish seemed off, and the scent of it not right.I ended up only risking one of the yellowtail pieces and leaving the rest, despite it being my favorite fish. Even the rice wasnot right. It felt old, like leftovers, hardened a bit on the outside. This made it chewy and extra-sticky. You were stillfinding bits of it clinging to your teeth twenty minutes after you finished the nigiri. Service was sub-par as well. Ourwaitstaff was curt, rapidly repeating our order back to us so fast I could barely understand her. Some time after ourunappetizing meals were served, she did a perfunctory check with us to ask if our meals were okay, but did not give us time torespond before declaring “Oh, good!” and rushing away. In summary, we won’t be going back unless we hear the restauranthas made some kind of miracle comeback. We did not enjoy a single part of our lunch. It is a shame, but now we know to avoid theplace. Sat in a mostly empty dining room with full staff standing around. After being ignored for 40 minutes, finally someone realized... we had been sat but not given menus or anything. The manager came over and apologized but we waited another 40 minutes for food.No refills. Nada. We were kind and considerate and just kept hoping it would get better the entire evening and it didn't.Because the sashimi had sat out for probably 30+ minutes by the time I got it, I couldn't eat it because it was warm and iffy. All told 2 hours and 25 minutes later, $72, and a mostly empty stomach...ended up having to get sandwiches afterwards. Hopefullyjust a perfect storm of the worst things that happen in this place and a very off night and experience. Everyone was nice, butnot very helpful. So odd given the reviews I had read. Couldn't give a good review in good conscience. Read more

Well like all things, the prices have skyrocketed here. The salmon was $18 and a good size piece a year ago. Now its smaller... and $30. Still delicious, but this was a big driver for me coming here. My wife loves the sushi and this was a good lateralternative for a non-sushi guy like me. Good gluten free options for my family was a nice surprise. Read more

Great service. Staff is very friendly and accommodating with certain allergy needs. They have a great gluten free selection for... others that have Celiac Disease as well. This is my go-to place for gluten free sushi. Pro tip: go during happy hour or reversehappy hour for lower prices. Read more

Excellent service and food with trendy modern asian interior design. The sushi came out very quick and was delicious. Crispy... beef was done perfect. I added 3 different vegetables for a couple extra bucks. The hot and sour soup didn't have much flavor, but the miso was great. Love the carrot ginger salad dressing. Read more
